I'm looking at a 90 tsi but i'm wondering about passing inspection. It would be NYS, and what I'm curious about is what they check for on these cars. I know they scan newer cars, but since they can't scan this car, what do they do? I'm asking because the seller is a pro with dsm cars and told me he removed the evap sensor along with a few other things. Thanks.

I dont know how it is where you are but I baught a cat and it still didnt pass. I ended up geting a waiver. What it is, if you spend 150 or more with reciepts you can then waive emmisions for a year but that means you have to spend 150 every year.

Don't know about NY, but in DE they stick a sniffer in the exhaust and measure the emissions. They also check for cat presence (under chassis mirror) and the gas cap evap seal. Hope NY is more laid back dude :)!

They will do a visual, but no sniffer, no rollers, and they won't plug into your ECU. It should have, or at least appear to have a cat. Nobody is going to be counting solenoids, and they probably wouldn't notice a missing EGR, or a few more or less vaccum lines. Anyting 95 or older is pretty easy to modify to your hearts content in NY without having to worry about emissions.

Ps. For OBD2 cars in NY, you have to spend $500 unsucessfully trying to get the onboard emissions data monitors to pass, before you can get a waiver for the year.
