i was looking on dsmparts.com and found a couple of turbos that caught my eye. first was a garrett t3/t4 with a to4e housing, 57 trim. flow rate is 53 lbs./min. and a 38mm internal wastegate. this sounds like what im looking for as far as power output is concerned(400-500).

next is a 50 trim, with a to4b housing, flow rate is unspecified. this one also come with a 38mm internal gate. the power output is nearly identical to the to4e above(350-500 range).

my goal is 400-450whp, with all necessary supporting mods. i know the to4e housing is larger, and probably more efficient, but im unsure as to how that particualr turbo would spool. this is going to be a daily driven car, so i would like to see full boost by 4000. my previous dsm was outfitted with a to4e, 48lbs/min turbo. i really liked this turbo, it spooled great, and had tons of power. im looking for something similar to this, and these two seem to be the closest that ive found. let me know what you guys think. thanks :dsm:

If I were you I would check out forcedperformance.com They are all about the DSM's and they custom build turbos and both housings to work for very specific applications. I called them told what I had, what I planned on doing, and they were very helpful in getting me a turbo that works killer.

Yes, I would first go onto forcedperformance.net and see what kind of turbos they have out, and whats going to meet your needs. I am suggesting forcedperformance, because they have great products, and plenty of turbos that fit your needs; which were 400-500whp correct?? After you select one, give them a call so you can place an order thru them. Call because they have tons of options to choose from.

If forcedperformance is priced too high, you can always go with a 50 trim. Just about every vendor has them. Just search and see whichever fits your needs.

Hope this helps Stay boostin.

anybody know about what rpms you would see full boost on a 57 trim? i know this is relative to what modifications the car has, but im just looking for a guestimate

Go 50 trim if this is your goal. The 50 trim is more "pump gas friendly". Meaning, it will run more efficiently at many flow levels (300-550 horsepower) and you can get alot of flow at low boost.

This sounds like a 50 trim:thumb: . They flow 48 lbs/min and spool in the upper 3000 rpms

The 50 trim has been proven to be a 400+wheel horsepower turbo. A Forced performance equivilant would be the Green which incorporates the same compressor with a mitsu hot side. FP has a great reputation. But you have to pay for it. It's worth it if you have the extra bones. Either way, a 50trim is known as the "pump gas king".

yea, it was a 50 trim. the only differece between that one and the one im currently looking at was the compressor housing size. i do like the FP Green, and provided i can ever come up with that much to spend on a turbo, id would like to go that route.

i'd pick up a setup used, as you can often get them with gate and o2 housing for the price of new, from someone who is going bigger.

Frankly, I think that messing around with an internal gate with that sized turbo is a waste of time. [shrug]

Save up a bit extra and get an external, it's worth it.

Well, AGP and Slow Boy both have 50trims for substancially cheaper... And they bolt on...

i was actually considering the AGP RS49, but after reading through a number of posts on here, it seems there are quite a few people who arent very fond of this turbo. im not sure why, but this is just what i have read. ive also looked at SBRs line up and it looks pretty good.

i may end up going with an external gate when it comes time to actually get the turbo. i do have a few questions about this though. is it more efficient to have the wastegate manifold mounted, or o2 housing mounted? with my old 50 trim, i ran an internal gate and i never had problems with boost creep. maybe i just got lucky though.

I would choose the SBR 50 trim too.

It is more efficient to have the wastegate on the manifold than on the 02 housing. I would go external because with that turbo you would probably want to run high boost; and high boost and internal don't mix well.

Recent AGP RS49T Review.

I just bought a RS60T (FP red compressor) and will be posting a review soon.

Yes, I don't plan on running over 23 psi on the streets and will be only upping the boost at the track. My turbo likes 25+ psi but I don't have the money for an external set up now. But I highly recommend it too...

souds like they were very satisfied with the rs49. i personally think it sounds like a great turbo as well, and it is basically the exact same as the turbo i used to run. do you know what some of the people complaints were about the rs49? im just curious because it seems like ive been getting mixed opinions of it.

now i have another question about the manifold mounted external gate, does anybody know where i could get a good manifold for this? or, is it something that could be fabbed up by someone with the right experience?

You will get mixed opinions on every turbo.

Just so everyone is clear on our rules, as we had to delete a post that was quite inaccurate and I want to clear up the confusion - we encourage feedback on products, good and bad. Everyone is welcome to leave a review of a product in our Product Feedback section in the Tech Guide, again, positive and negative reviews are welcome.

What we don't allow is:
A. complaints about the retailers themselves and their customer service (use vendors-reviewed.com.
B. opinions on products that you haven't used on your own car and have first-hand experience with - no hearsay. If you simply regurgitate info that you read somewhere or heard from someone, we'll delete it. Too many people are posting opinions about products they haven't used and it's got to stop. If your post even contains the words "I heard", it might get deleted.

To discuss the reasoning behind this, feel free to PM me or post in the Site Feedback forum. Do not ask me about it in this thread. Back on topic now...

What is your budget for this turbo?
