I can't stop getting oil from leaking from where the bolts go into the oil pan for the oil return. The holes go into the oil pan. Iv'e tried thread sealer, teflon tape, even atlittle rtv around the washers. I am using a new oil return line from FP.
Any ideas?

The oil pan is probably not perfectly flat were the oil feed bolts to it. I would take the feed line off and see if you can see if its not flat, if it isnt take the oil pan off and hammer it flat. If it looks good I would try to put a bunch of rtv gray on there, let it dry then refill the oil.

Take it off and be sure both surfaces are clean and flat. Sounds like you return line flange may be a little warped. After you clean and check it use a new gasket and some copper sealant spray on both sides od the gasket. I think permatex makes it, it helps fill in any tiny surface flaws.

Is it leaking from the bolts or from the flange? It sounds like you mean its leaking around the bolts themselves. If thats the case you need new crush washers on the pan bolts, as this is the only thing that seals around the bolts. The crush washers are very fragile in this location & like all crush washers, aren't supposed to be re-used. You can pic up new crush washers from your local Mitsu (they are made from aluminum) or the std. copper ones will work as well, believe their a 6mm.

A new pan gasket & new crush washers are all that should be required to get a perfect seal

Just a thought but try using a liquid gasket maker too (incase the other suggestions fail). That usually does the trick as well. Tom.

I've gone through the same hell as you, plus some. I've tried new gaskets, crush washers, lines, rtv, thread tape, everything. Mines leaking from before the gasket, and I'm pretty sure it's because the pan isn't flat. Also, the line I have is from turbochargers.com, and it isn't that great. It's a bunch of parts that are screwed together, and the oil leaks through the threads. Maybe I can clean the threads out and apply some sealant to it. I'll let you know how it goes.

After I re-read your post, I still believe what I said above is your issue but just wanted to mention putting teflon tape on the bolts that hold the return line flange to the oil pan is a bad idea. Its pretty common that pieces of the tape can break off & the bolts in this location go directly into the oil pan so you could have pieces of teflon tape floating around in your oil pan, which is defently not a good thing. I never use teflon tape on any locations, espically oil related for this reason, use a teflon liquid type sealent or pipe dope to prevent this (I'm speaking for other areas, like I said, flange to pan bolts requuire no sealent as the threads aren't the sealing surface).

For others thats are having sealing issues from the flange/gasket area itself, when installing a new Mitsu return line gasket, place the side with the sealent ring towards the pan as chances are that the pan side isn't as flat as the flange side, so this should help get the best possible seal.

well teflon was my last resort and i only put it on the fisr 1/3 of the thread closer to the head (for the reason of it going into the oil pan). I havn't tried the crush washer, however it makes sense that would fix my problem. Will give it a try later on
