So I have my first new DSM, I wanna gun 7's, what mods to I need to to buy in order to.... Wait. Wrong question. :D

Seriously though. I have a leaky oil return line that's driven me flippin CRAZY!@#@!#

It doesn't appear to be the line itself, which I bought a new one from the dealer for $70.00 dollars anyway, new gaskets, new bolts, etc.

It appears to be leaking out of the oil pan, AROUND the bolts. I'd tried coating them with Permatex and even bought new bolts as mentioned above, nothing seems to help.

My friend seems to think the bolt holes, the threads must be a little stripped.. Well not stripped but he thinks it was over tightened and the threads got pulled too tight and now there a little stretched out.

Short of a new oil pan, what else might help fix this? I literally have to ad a quart every time I drive the damn thing. It's been like this for two years and I run Mobile 1 5-30 so yeah, I've spent a pretty penny on oil.

Jim's link will help, but honestly I think the only way to do it right is to weld on a fitting and bypass the bolt holes altogether. (at least I hope it works as good as I think it will :D). There's a couple of pics and a bit of info here, about halfway down. You can get the return fittings and hose from a few places, like ExtremePSI and Forced Performance (I think they still have it).

Even with crush washers, it can still leak. I've tried it all...crush washers, new stock pipe, sealer on the bolts, different gaskets, etc. Besides the thru holes, the biggest problem is that over time the oil pan flange gets to where it isn't flat anymore, and no matter what you do it will probably leak...maybe not as bad and it might stop for a while, but eventually it starts dripping again.

Yeah I'm not looking to get into all that, welding etc.

But um... No, no crush washers and I didn't use that number 2 Peramtex on the threads. I'll have to give that a try.

Thanks.

Im having the same problem. Anyone think that thermostat sealant or JB weld will stop the leak? I have a new oil return line, used bolts, new gasket. This is all because I recently installed a 14b. I did notice that the turbo had to be pulled... no no, LIFTED significantly to bolt up to the manifold. Maybe thats why its leaking.

Either way, the line is staying on, its flush. Just leaking at the bottom of the line as you can see. It is leaking very slightly. But enough to complain about, especially if it can be fixed.

So0o0o0o, JB weld or Sealant??? Let me know, btw I used copper spray gasket on it as well.

On mine, I drained the pan, then used some degreaser to clean the mating surface. Then put some RTV around it and new crush washers. Seals great. You can also consider "lapping" or sanding the down tube mating surface flat in case it has scratches that will allow oil to leak through.

I had that problem when I first built my engine. It needs a new gasket, sealer, and flat washers or crush washers. Lock washers will leak every time. It's important for it to line up and seat flat too. I put some flat washers in mine, and it hasn't leaked since.

Hi I have a 4g63 with a 16g turbo, I just got done replacing my gasskets in my whole exhaust, behind the headers and some of the turbo gaskets, when I got everything together and started the car it started pissing oil out of the top of the oil return line, where it meets the turbo not where it meets the oil pan. I have replaced both screws and took the turbo to a machine shop to make sure it was threaded ok, the gasket has been replaced as well but it continues to piss everytime I go to start it. Any idea, remember this is on the turbo not the oil pan.

Why did you post this in a three year old thread?

Use the black tack permatex.

Beyond the three year old post part.

Did you use crush washers? Did you put any kind of rtv or sealant on it or the gaskets? Is there a clog in the return which could lead to the oil coming out above the tube as the weakest point.
Is there too much oil?
All these could be contributing factors to your issue.
Others will chime in with more as well.

I used no washers, only the gasket and bolts. No issues.
