Oil Pressure Gauge question

Hey all. I have been looking into getting an oil pressure gauge for a couple weeks, and believe me, I have done my research.

I decided I want to go with a mechanical gauge, because it reacts quicker and it has a full sweep face. I know all the people that say not to do this because of the plastic line running through the interior. This is where my question comes in.

Instead of using the plastic (or whatever it is) hose that comes with the kit, I want to run stainless line from the oil filter housing to the gauge. I have no idea what I would need, or where I can find it. I attempted searching summitracing.com but I can't navigate that site for the life of me. If anyone knows what I would need to run this, it would be much appreciated.

Also, I have looked at the "high pressure gauge isolator" from Autometer. It is just a bit out of my budget at $95. Thanks in advance.

too bad no one responds to this. I also just purchased a mechanical oil pressure gauge and would like to know if any people have had any real problems with them or had any suggestions with the install.

OK guys. I just bought a mechanical oil pressure gauge for my car about 30 min. ago. I will be installing it within the next couple days. I will do my best to answer any questions you guys have on the install.

Whatever you do, DO NOT use the nylon line that comes with the gauge. You need to be using stainless braided line when mounting mechanical pressure gauges in the cabin. And 4AN is the size line to use. Now, I'm not sure what length I need to run yet (i will know for sure by tonight). Autometer sells a 6ft. braided line kit, but it's like $50 (ouch ). The stainless braided line sold with nitrous kits would also work and NOS sells a 6ft section for a reasonable price (about $32), but it's a little harder to find. The Autometer part number is 3228 and the NOS part number is 15260. I sell stainless goodridge lines for like $15, but the longest I have is 4 ft, so if that is long enough, then I'm in business. Like I said, I'll know more by tonight.

i just used a sunpro copper line from advance auto for mine, i've had it on almost two years without any problems

I did my research too and from what I read, some people used the copper line instead of what came with the gauge and nobody had problems with it.

cool, I'll be install my gauge(0-100 psi autometer phantom series 2-1/16) soon aswell. thanks for the replies.
