My car has a oil leak on the drivers side. It has covered the underside of the car and seems to drip off the inner splash shield. I was thinkin maybe the OFH as it has oil on it. After i kill it it drips for a bit then stops never more than 3-4 drops. Any ideas ive searched and searched.

Take it to the car wash and wash it all down than let it run and watch underneath for it to drip. There are quite a few things on that side that it could leak from.

well it sounds like you need to take some splash guards off or whatever you need to take off to see where its leaking,a tip would be to pressure wash the "affected area" until clean and then with those things removed crank the car and watch the oil leak.

I had a cracked valve cover(Dealers fault) but they bought a brand new one with Oem gasket.. That deminished the leak somewhat. However, it did not start leaking until i took it into my dads dealership .He is a Mgr there and they did lifters for me. Which makes me think it could be cam seals from the asses reusing the old ones perhaps?. Dodge dealership not Mitsu. Car is at Mudpit perf now.

Wipe off whatever has oil on it and start the car and watch. You'll see it. I had the same symptoms that you have and it was my oil feed for my turbo coming off of the oil filter housing. I bought a new line and it fixed that right up

If you want your car to be in good conditions and very well care..

You should start putting your hand into your car..

This is the only way that you know your car (how it is, what have done and what it will need).

Unless you are surrounded with some good knowledgeable mechanics (DSM).

Brian at mudpit perf specializes in dsm's. Its there right now. I usedto have ample time to work on my cars when i was younger. Notice my screen name hahah. I havesince wrked my way up the corporate ladder and time is no longer as abundant. I did change the tranny fluid, shocks, wires, plugs, axles. I just dont have time to do the other stuff like hunt for leaks and other big jobs. I familiar with the 4g63.

Believe me dude i miss working on my rides and being involved. It kills me to walk out of my house know somethings wrong and not be able to find out for myself what it is. Now i have to pay someone. :(.

So it goes. I wear a tie now. Disgusting. Hahahah

May have been cam seal not put in correctly. Mudit called and said that he pushed them out cause they were not flush with the cam? Either way im hoping this solves the problem. ....:hellyeah:

next few hrs should tel the story.

Leak still persist. Spoke with Mudpit a few moments ago. Perplexed on the cause of what it could be.

There isn't much that will leak on that side which should be easy to fine when it's all cleaned up. Starting from the top you have your oil cap, valve cover gasket, cam seals, front case gasket, bolt that needs RTV on the front case, castle plug o ring, crank seal, OFH gasket, OFH sensor leaking, oil pan.

If it comes down to it, clean it all up, add UV dye to the oil, get the leaking to occur, get a black light and find the leak/s.

Thank you for your post. Guess im gna find it myself. Going to get the car today since i have the next few days off. Save me some time and money. PLus the reward of doing it yourself.

I'm kinda surprised a dsm shop didn't try the uv dye or look at those specific spots.

He did but i only paid him for the clutch install and for what we thought was the ofh seal. I only like to have stuff done that i can cover with cash. I know taking the timing covers off is a lil consuming. So im takin it back monday for him to take the covers off and locate the leak. However, he did say that he took the vc off and cam cap and found one of the cam seals on not flush. He pushed it back in best he could and put some light colored grease on it.

Since then it has leaked the grease/oil out from behind the seals onto the gears. After cleaning today i found that after i started the car oil would slowly build up on the exhaust cam. This leads me to believe that it is the exhaust cam seal. The oil seems to be getting slung as it has a outward appearance from the center of the cam gear. The intake cam seems to be dry for the most part.

IF it started leaking after it had head work done on it i'd assume that it is the cam seal. It would be wise to replace the timing belt if it has gotten any oil on it. The oil will soften the rubber in the belt and cause it to fail eventually.

Im inclined to agree with you. All things being equal that was the last thing touched. Oil leaks make me pissed!! The timing belt has about 1000 miles on it. So im not sure if its that bad. Ive spoke with several shops and they have all agreed that a new belt is only necassary if mine was old or cracked in the first place. Coolant and powersteering fluid were worse enemies. This coming from jotech racing and other shops. Input?

I guess they have never seen what oil does to a timing belt. At least take it off and clean it with dawn dish soap and water.

Yea i dont know? Seems everyone(shop) has there own tuning/engine building quirks. I will most likely replace it.

If you do decide to replace it, you can get the gates belt for less than 20 dollars from rockauto.com. If it just has a little on it and hasn't been on there long than you should be good with just cleaning it, it's kind of up to you though, it can be a factor down the road.

Yea i mean if he is gna be in there might as well replace it. The maintenance is done. Wishin i could start the fun stuff by now but just a few more things. Now that i have a good shop shit ahould move along alot better.

You came from and Rx-7 so why do you believe that leaks aren't completely normal ROFL.

Not sure I'd worry so much about the timing belt unless you're in there anyways, it's not going to make it just snap. Just remember though, this won't be the last time you break. I went a different route on my newest #7 DSM and bought one that was already built by a well known builder and even since then I'm sure I have 3-4k in here. And that's with doing 99% of the work myself. :banghead:

Honestly i believe my 7 had less leaks. Lol ;). This dsm has actually been pretty gd. The day i bought it i began maintenance. Im just looking forward to the completed product. Ive owned 97 gst as well. The 99 is tons better. 1 owner lady. Still have original window sticker.
