What's good guys? Ive been running HD fram filter with mobile1 10w-30 for awhile now. Came time to change oil and i was short on cash so i jumped on Napa's oil change special. It came with mobile1 5000 10w-30 and a STP oil filter.
Changed my oil and now my pressure has dropped noticeable. Retgreting I ever bought the damn thing. Even at first glance the STP was significantly larger in diameter. I browsed on here and they said something about without a check valve in the filter could cause this. Has anyone else ran into this? Who's filters has them and who's doesn't?

I use nothing but Wix on my cars for a reason....consistency. Fram are 100% WalMart garbage- you never know what you're getting from them anymore.

But it's true, I've seen a huge variation in pressures between filter brands before. My old Ford truck is picky and wants nothing but a Motorcraft on it, which I believe is made by Purolator. Tried an AC Delco on it once and at hot idle it would lose enough pressure that gauge would tank and the oil light would come on, and it also took longer to generate pressure upon a cold start. Not cool.

Single best oil filter out there IMO is the Purolator Pure One. Filters better then a K&N and Mobil 1 filters yet it only costs around $6. Plus I've always had awesome oil pressure with them.

Seems im not up to date on oil filters LOL. Thanks guys looks like i know what ill be running from here on out. Literally the stp held twice to volume of the fram wtf. Where can i pick up a "wix"? I've never heard of them

Thats because motorcraft filters have check valve (back flow valve or something I can't remember actual name). When I worked at the shop we recommended only using them when doing a ford.

Ams oil has this in there filters as well. Wix is the best filter besides ams oil. It was recemended by our ams oil guy(he didn't just sell oil).

Puralator does make motorcraft.

It's an anti-drainback valve, necessary for filters that are mounted on an angle or higher than the top of the oil pan which have a tendency to drain their contents after the engine is shut off.

Most modern automotive spin-on oil filters all contain an anti-drainback valve with the exception of a few GM filters like the PF46 and PF61 as their original application has the filters mounted low, upright, and directly next to the pan. The presence of the valve does restrict a little flow by design, but not having one on cars that require them would do more harm than good.

For the record, the PF2 AC Delco filter I used on my truck did have the anti-drainback valve...it just sucked at supplying oil to the engine. :p

Hey man, stay away from STP filters. I bought one one time and it caused more issues than I could have ever guessed it would. It didnt seem to fit right to begin with although the guys at AutoZone reassured me it was the right one, and I had the same problem, low oil pressure. I thought maybe I had left the gasket from the old filter on and it was causing it but no. So I went and got a NAPA Gold filter and everything went back to normal. STP filters are absolute garbage.
