Oil change

Ok people before you blast me for posting this, i read through other threads about what oil to use, and it just seems like a arguement of what type of oil to use that are over 14 pages for a simple question.

I currently use penzoil platnium full synthetic. I forgot what viscosity and im not by my car now so I can not look, ill post that later. Just want to know if this is good for my car or is there a better oil solution for my next change.

zinc compounds react with the metal to prevent scuffing and wear. More zinc doesn't give you better protection, it gives you longer protection if the rate of metal to metal contact is abnormally high.

I will keep that in mind then. I was looking at the lucas stuff cause it says it protects from wear on your engine.

Lucas is a quality product, I currently run it in my 3g and it has helped with the annoying lifter tick that the 3.0 v6 is very prone to. But be careful, synthetics (and dino oil) are blended with specific additive pacakges to help prolong engine life, and sometimes the "overuse" of an additive can counter act the additive package already in the oil. It won't necessarily hurt anything, but you won't be getting the added protection that you think you are, and you'll just be wasting money. Additive use in moderation isn't a bad thing though.

Lucas .. "gag" .. stuff foams up the oil. Additives is NOT what you need, or any motor needs - why you do your recommended oil changes.

I get confused. I read in some other threads lucas is good, but in some others that its bad, just like in this one.

From another forum . .. not here in DSMtuners .. why you DONT need Lucas, unless your motor is in a worn out condition:

Additives can be useful for cars that need a "band-aid" fix. STP for example is an excellent lubricant for what it is. But I would not use it in any engine that is in decent condition. It is really meant for engines that have worn rings, loose bearings etc.

All Lucas does as what it says above: it thickens the oil so it's a temporary "band-aid" for what problems that are in the motor ... and mostly to quiet down ticky lifters (that needs to be replaced pronto in the first place), or transmission with worn syncros ... a quick "band-aid' fix until the actual repair comes along...

I've seen demos of this stuff in NAPA stores where it really sticks to everything - in which that is what you really don't want inside a good running motor .. just like honey ...

And, if you thicken the oil, then the lubrication properties of the oil cannot be fully accomplished since the flow is drastically reduced to all necessary passages and to pull the heat back to the pan to be cooled and returned to the system.

If your motor is running great, keep this S**T from entering the block - just "effing" snake oil.

I have a lifter tick but only for the first few seconds after starting my engine for the first time of the day.
