*As of 9/9/12, the weighted shift knobs are around $45 from BruceTitusAuto and to my knowledge currenty the cheapest to buy brand new. Get one while the price is still low!*

If anyone tries to buy one at the $45-$50 rate but the price seems to have gone up substantially, please update this thread with a quick note, so I can update this first post to the current pricing. Thanks.

Okay, it still isn't as cheap as they apparently used to be (<$20) BUT it's a hell of a lot better than what big places charge (>$120). Part number, MR263906.

For those of you that don't know of this beauty, here and here is where the next 10 minutes of your life should be spent

Anyway. I believe it's the OEM weighted shift knob that everyone is after but want to know what you guys think. There is no part number listed but they say it's the OEM knobs originating from DSM models, weighing in at 14 Ounces (396 Grams!). They've sold these things like diet coke at the Walmart checkout ;) and everyone's happy with it judging from feedback.

This is the more authentic looking auction
Clickity 1 <-Closed link, BruceTitus no longer selling on eBay.

This one is most likely the same but wasn't sure judging from the depth of the shift pattern
Clickity 2 <- Not a threaded knob, will not work without plastic adapter

And here is where I think they may be getting these from. Doubtful, but it's the cheapest place I could find
Clickity 3 <- This is BruceTitus. Same item as the first link (eBay) Direct place to get the knob, even uses the same P/N. Go to Mitsubishiparts.net or nissanparts.cc and search 'weighted shift knob'.

I plan on buying one along with a 'Megan' or 'Mirage Power' short shifter and the replacement solid bushings for the shift base plate. That's got to be an awesome mod combo, am I right!? I already have the skate bearing mod along with some Redline oil.

Just gotta point this quote out to you guys. It's an auction for one of those crap knobs that mount via Allen head set screws. I want to MEET THE GUY who thought to add this as a safety precaution.

POINTS TO CONSIDER

1) DO NOT MOUNT WHILST DRIVING

Dammmmmmmmmmitttttttt why not!? Sonabich, can't a guy zap fry his poptarts in the microwave for 3 seconds to save time, hit the road, and tool on his shifter whilst driving? I need to get to work, and fast

That first link/auction looks good. The other one weighs 12 ounces so there is a difference. 355 grams vs 392 grams(14 ounces). Damn im tempted but ive got so many other things to buy LOL.
Your setup sounds like it should perform well with what you mentioned. How does your tranny shift now? If its good, then youll likely have even better performance with a short throw and solid base bushings.

I had one on my old 97 with a b and m short shift, i liked it so much that i kept the knob when i sold the car. Its in my 1g now

I remember paying like $17 on JNZ like 2 years ago. I should've bought tons and made a profit today. LOL

HA! DSMs in Montana? Nobody even knows what my car is, especially since it's unbadged. I don't call it a Mitsubishi. Or even a DSM. I call it a project LOL

Anyway, I'm leaning towards the first link.

Kind of conflicting information across the net on this knob. JNZtuning says it's 13.5ounces(382grams) and RTMracing says almost 400g. Then the ebay auctions say 14oz(396grams) and the other says 355g(12.5oz). Someone help spot the fake!

*Verified roughly 380-382grams

What would you guys go with? I would send the first links buyer a question of authenticity but it seems they're away.

Just bought the first one. It's at least 14 ounces. Keep in mind it will not thread on a megan short shifter. You will have re tap the knob.

The shift knob is also longer but should thread down enough to not notice.

Red_devil, did the knob come in dealer packaging? Or was it just a really good copy of OEM?

Well that sucks about the threads. How hard is it for a company to just match to OEM thread specification dammit. What about the Mirage Power shifter? (same design) I sent them an email asking about the thread pitch/diameter so hopefully they respond.

MiragePower shifter actually has OEM thread pitch (M10 x 1.25)

Thanks Red-devil, that's great news!

Well I got a response from Mirage Power for the short shifter. It's a no go there too, looks like I have to do some rethreading either way

Thank you for contacting us, this item can not use the oem shift knob
because the thread pattern is not the same. This item comes with an
universal shift knob to be installed onto the shifter. Thank you for the
interest.

*They don't know what they're talking about. The threads are, in fact OEM/stock pitch (M10 x 1.25)

I'll order from the first link soon and report back. I'll weigh it with the scale I used for pistons too

Good luck, it really helped with shifting smoothness. I have the same setup you are looking to get. Solid shifter plate bushing, skate bearings, megan short shifter, and oem weighted shift knob. Good combo.

Did you rethread the knob or the shifter?

I can hardly wait for the upgrade. With my shifter in gear, I can move the shifter in a cirlce diameter of about an inch, lots of play :toobad:

I borrowed a tap that matched from my dad. Couldn't read the tap size unfortunately. I tapped it half way then just forced the sucker on. The steel of the shifter is much stronger and just threaded itself on anyway. Not the recommended way but it's on nice and tight and will thread back off without issues.

Thanks

If I remember tomorrow I'll weigh this 2G one just for kicks. I don't think the weight has been listed before so it should help somehow

What's up guys, I got some new info.

It's unfortunate, but it seems the more authentic looking listing ('clickity 1'), the seller is no longer selling anything at this time. I sent them an email and have not heard back since the first. For reference, the seller's ID is 'brucetitusautogroup' on eBay. I'll update if I get a response.

Additionally, I opted to shoot the second listing ('clickity 2') an email just for s.... and giggles. The seller's ID on eBay is justcar2000. I basically asked if it's listed as GENUINE, would I receive the item in dealership packaging. Well they promptly responded yes...but from a 'Mitisubishi China factory with dealer packaging'. Ok...Not sure on that one. They were very nice and offered to send me pics so I had some sent to my e-mail.

Tell me what you think, is it possible this is Chinese part number stuff is true? I found a thread across the net where someone received a knob from 'brucetitusautogroup' which had the same exact part number. So it seems the two listings are selling the same thing.

A few notes:

If you look at the above part number sent to you on google, it brings up that listing. Look at the pictures at the lower portion of the auction--this is a 3G knob and uses a collar that threads on to the shifter, and then you press the shifter down onto the collar. Without said collar, the knob will be useless to you.

As for pricing on the actual MR263906, I just updated our price file from Mitsubishi and they have gone up another $10. So if you find someone who's got a few old ones lying around before the Mitsubishi pricing increases--grab them while you can. Looking at Mitsubishi's inventory listings, it looks like the mitsubishiparts.net place listed above has 2 remaining in their inventory so I'm guessing after those are gone they will either choose not to reorder, or the pricing will go up significantly there as well.

You need to look at it this way--Mitsubishi was WAYYY underpricing these knobs for years (for what reason, whether it intentional or accidental I don't know). We had a good run with them for a long time.

Good thing you mentioned that big flaw, I must have gotten confused at one point thinking it was a threaded knob. Well, that ones out!

When I get money again, I'll try out the .net place before they have no choice to raise the price.

By the way, my car is recently back on the road again using JNZtuning OEM parts :) Thanks for the great services!
