OEM weighted shift knobs!

This site may earn a commission from merchant affiliate links, including eBay, Amazon, and others.

Good thing you mentioned that big flaw, I must have gotten confused at one point thinking it was a threaded knob. Well, that ones out!

When I get money again, I'll try out the .net place before they have no choice to raise the price.

By the way, my car is recently back on the road again using JNZtuning OEM parts :) Thanks for the great services!

Thanks, Nathan!

We appreciate the business!

Just out of curiosity, I went in the back and grabbed 3 knobs (left them in the bags though):

Remember--these aren't pistons (which I've seen sets come in with much larger variances in weight) so you will find differences from knob to knob.

(Note: The first two pictures are two different knobs that amazingly came in at the exact same weight)

Awesome info JNZ! That is great stuff!

I also measured my OEM shift knob which came stock on my 97' GSX. It's the plastic one that is wrapped in leather. I've never seen the weight listed before (for the regular stock knobs) so I'm throwing this up

Like JNZ said, it's not going to be exact for every one. This particular one weighs around 123grams.

Well time for an update. I modified my first post a bit to make things easier for future searches.

I waited and I waited for the auction to come up available again but unfortunately the seller 'BruceTitus' on eBay never started selling stuff again. SO I hit up Google for BruceTitus and found their website.
Bruce Titus Automotive Group | New Mitsubishi, Nissan, Jeep, Chrysler, Subaru and Ford dealerships.
Called their number and eventually ended up with Russel (just ask for Mitsubishi parts, then ask for the eBay guy)
He said they were closing down their eBay store for good. Told me to go to NissanParts.cc - Your #1 Source for OEM Parts and Accessories, then switch to the Mitsubishi heading (MitsubishiParts.net - Your #1 Source for OEM Parts and Accessories) and enter in part number, MR263906. Bam, right there $39.60, plus $9.95 USA ground shipping.

To see a bit of a better description+picture, go to NissanParts.cc - Your #1 Source for OEM Parts and Accessories, enter 'weighted leather' and it comes up with 3 results. It's either of the bottom two.

I called them up and as of today, there is 1 left in stock. According to the sales person, they've only sold 2 in a year but can get more if need be. Somewhere over 300 in one warehouse and 200 in another. But I'm betting that once they sell the last one, and re-up on stock, the price will jump up like everyone else's has.

Lastly, you could probably luck out on eBay after a few weeks searching for one.
Search terms I used were

leather weighted shift
galant leather shift knob
eclipse leather shift knob
mitsubishi leather shift knob
mitsubishi weighted leather
MR263906

Or any variation/combination of the terms (which is a lot) plus whatever you're noggin can come up with

What's up fewyearsinthefuture members?! Obama still blowin' money? Thought I wasn't going to come back huh. Well guess what, I'm back and back I am with all the nerdy details of my latest purchase :D

Ordered the knob from nissanparts.cc (basically same as mitsubishiparts.net just different department) for a grand total of $45. Initial ship out was slow, like 7 days slow. But once it was shipped, it took two days to travel. So I got it in dealer packaging, that's good. Definitely OEM sticker and quality. It's a big difference weightfeelwise of the light cheap knob vs the weighted. Feels great.

The knob is physically longer but doesn't actually sit/mount any higher than the other knob. It basically moves the shift boot down according to how much longer the new knob is. The pictures will show what I mean on that though. Since it moves the boot down, it makes things look kinda funky, well, to me at least. So what I'll probably be doing is getting a new carbon fiber shift boot or OEM leather one (eBay again) and cut the end length until the boot looks right. That should be a nice cherry to the shifting system along with a short shifter to take up that nasty worn slop in the shifter.

~Enjoy

So.... the OEM ones didnt have the numbers on top? and the weighted ones do?

Aaand, for the sake of future reference, you don't have to do these searches separately. In eBay it goes something like this:
"(weighted,galant,eclipse,talon,mitsubishi) leather shift knob"

In craigslist, you can do it too, but it looks like this:
"(weighted|galant|eclipse|mitsubishi) leather shift knob"

I use these all the time in searches. Works great.:thumb:

Nherron, did you get the Megan shifter? Do you know if there are any good reviews out there on them? Can you do a review on them?! It's a shame they had to go an make it all standard, I want metric threading on everything. It's so much simpler. Also thinking about some solid shifter plate bushings. Have you any experience with a particular set?

Man you nailed it, I bought the Mirage SS because no one ever did a review on them. Turns out I didnt have to rethread, it was M10 x 1.25 pitch already! Great fit too. I have yet to write the article but I have all the pictures and I do plan on it.
And I also have the solid bushings, I definatly wouldnt go name brand on them, theres really nothing special about them. Old DSMers used to just use washers for the same effect.

Its been super busy at this new job but I will make an article on the SS.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking about doing the washers thing, but I want it to be a perfect fit and rather have it all one piece so it can't slide around or anything. I guess I can go for the eBay cheap set on this one.

I will have to check out the Mirage, I've never heard of that brand before just now..

edit, just looking at your signature .. I have the meth. It's for sale in the classifieds!

For future references / searches!

You can find the knobs in the yard as stated earlier...

Also as stated earlier... They will be the OEM Leather/ Plastic Non Weighted ones... Pictures below...
** Unless you get lucky AF and find a nice Weighted oem one...

Got this one off a 98 Eclipse in the yard. Free... Don't ask it's self explanatory LOL ROFL ( this one feels leathery and the 1-5 R are not worn out. It's in pretty good shape. Good "Steal" hahaha ) I paid the 2 entree fee's so theres my " Pay " ROFL LOL
** Currently on my RS until I find a Weighted knob **

Now this one came off a Mazda Miata.. Not sure what year.... Feels like plastic rubber and its black... Had it in my car before I found a Eclipse OEM knob...

Yeah the brand is called MiragePower on eBay. Fits great and it just so happens to be the cheapest! Still have to shave off or add some metal but that's no biggie

I BELIEVE the weighted ones came stock on the 98/99 GSX's. Kinda the same idea as how they got the nice black/tan interior

I have a 98 gsx and I have a leather wrapped shift knob, but it is just the light one, not heavy. I just bought a weighted knob off of ebay so once it arrives I'll let you know if it is legit or not. Paid around 48 shipped for it.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/260902036541?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649 Here is the link. Sounds to be legit, if not oh well, not much money and as long as it fits and is heavy ish i'm happy with it.

Did you read the description before you bought it? D:

Also as Nherron stated, Can you post the link to the knob so we can check!

I'm thinking of ordering one... But I may wait a little longer... Thanks a lot Nathan! If I never saw this thread, I probably would of never thought of buying one for 50$... Other sites says like 100-150$ -.-

I wasn't able to take pictures because the seller didn't want me to open the package if I was going to return it so I figured for the ease of getting my money back i'd just do what they say. I did get the correct knob though for just under 50 dollars. Can't wait to get it on the car.
