o2 dump

I dont know about power but I put one on my 14B turbo and it made a big difference with boost creep. Thats not to say a non dumped upgraded one wouldnt do the same thing, but if the atmo. dump isnt cramming that with the rest of the exhaust I can only assume it is less restrictive both for the wastegate pressure and the exhaust since less air is going through it which SHOULD lead to increased hp. Just my .02

Nothing in noticeable HP, unless you're running huge amounts of boost and bigger a turbo with alot of power, however what you will notice is better performance, better spool/creep. The big boys run the externals with 38, 44 mm waqstegates. I don't see the need for street use. But it can be had with an internal dump as well such as an evo 3. I like the sound of an external dump.

my .02

+1, I read a thread on here not to long ago where a dude ran it open and went through 4 alternators before he figured out the culprit.

I regret having an open dump on my car, too loud for starters. I can't open it up anywhere for fear of being pulled over. Plus it fried my alternator, need to make a heat shield and replace it soon.

For one an o2 dump will help with boost creep, when I ran an open 3in downpipe I didn't creep because of my o2 dump.

Secondly I've never fried any alternators, and that's with using no heat shields to only using the exh. manifold heat shield.

Thirdly it's not THAT loud, it's no louder than v8s that roll around when they get on it. I suggest that you never get a v8 because if you think that the o2 dump is too loud then you'll be just like one of those grandma's driving a corvette if you ever got a v8.

o2 dumps are great, and yes they are an upgrade no matter what you say. Less exhaust restriction = more power anyway you cut it.

Dumping yor o2 on a mostly stock car is ###... I hated the way mine sounded with it... I'll take the sound of my 16g spooling to 15psi and the HKS blow off valve relieving the pressure :)
Right, because a chirping airflow release sounds much faster than open exhaust.

I honestly think guys with stock or near-stock street-driven cars hate open dumps more than heavily modded cars because of the boost level they're running. If you're running 10psi on a quick-spooling turbo like a T25, the dump will be open at 2800rpms and anything above. If you're running 25psi on an internally-gated TD06 20G, the dump will not be open until you're really hauling ass.

I hear all you guys talking about frying alternators, I have run them a few times and NEVER burned one up. Maybe your dump tubes are way too short.... I don't even get carbon build up on anything under my hood from atmos dumping an o2 housing. I also run the dog crap out my my cars and still have not burned up anything...except a few cobra mustangs. The only O2 housing I EVER had an issue with was a piece I bought off ebay. SUPER SOLID piece but the sump tube was wayyy to short, Quick trip to home depot and five minutes under the welder and it was prob solved. Back to the topic, I would suspect atmos dumping would have a minimal gain AT BEST under any condition. It does however have a few upsides, It is known to control creep to a degree, It also is known to slightly lower EGT when open. MY personal fav IT SOUNDS BAD A$$. Some don't like it but I love the roar when it opens up. OH and beware of dyno straps I almost had an issue with that a while back LOL. It almost sucked hard, luckily we all saw it light up and burn so I was able to be like WOAAAAAAA THERE CAPT DYNO CRASH. :hellyeah:. It was funny But over all I don't see a down side to it on an obd1 car. Other than the fact its totally illegal ;) . Dont go blasting by the po po's and you wont have an issue. Check local laws on inspection where applicable. Some states will insta fail for having one. I always wondered if atmos bumping an obd2 car makes it run like crap. Maybe someone can chime in and enlighten me. It makes sense to me that it would run slightly like crap but maybe not.

I agree, O2 dump sounds mean as hell. But if you've got a T25/14b/16g...it'll get annoying to you over time.

I dumped for 2 years, first six months was fun...then it was just kind of like "meh".

I love the way my exhaust sounds now when you hear the external wastegate open up (dumping back into the exhaust). You can still hear the turbo spooling, and the exhaust tone gains a lot more bass and grunt. For one listening closely to the exhaust, it sound's like that of variable valve timing kicking in and allowing that extra breathing capacity.

Didn't notice a power gain from the butt dyno, but maybe you'll feel like you've gained power by it's obnoxious noise level

Mine just came in, I think I'm gonna need to extend my dump tube a little, it is only about 2" longer than the flange where the downpipe bolts to...

So is mine and it's fine.

By the way that's an ebay piece and it's been holding up perfectly, perfect fit, perfect welds, perfect price!

Which ebay piece is that?

The cheapest one on there I believe.
Same one's been on my buddy's 2G for the past couple years:

Will the ebay 3" down pipe work with that dump? The one that narrows to 2.5"?

I don't see why not. The downpipe we're using is one of the old-school Megan Racing 3" ones with the flex section that rubs the transfer case even after some sledge modification.

sorry i dk much bout the o2 dumps...so when you do this,,does this get rid of the o2...
Nope.

and if u have emmisions will you fail because of this...my emmisions just consist of no check engine lights and making sure the monitors are on
Not if you know the right people. :thumb:
