so i rebuilt my motor completely and after starting it i had no oil pressure so i shut it off, and later found out you have to prime it, so i primed it through the oil pressure sending unit tell i saw oil come out through my head, then i spun the oil pump with a drill and still not getting any oil even my filter off and nothing. am confused at this point because my pump worked fine before i took it apart. is there like a wrong way of putting the oil pump?

not sure what a pressure relive valve is. but i know i put the pick up tube on and im sure i put the gasket on because i got a complete engine gasket set. another thing, is there supposed to be any in and out movement of the oil pump when you take the sprocket off? or is it supposed to be tight?

What gauge are you using for your oil pressure? If its stock then check the wire connection to the sending unit, it should be the bigger one of the two. The smaller of is for the low oil pressure light. If your oil pressure light comes on with ignition on but as you start the engine it goes off then you have oil pressure and you might have a bad sending unit. If you have an after market mechanical gauge then check tour line to make sure its not kinked. You want to make sure that the gauge you're using is actually working before you jump to conclusions that you're previously working pump is not working.

There should be very little play in the shaft, not sure about the actual specs but the movement should almost be invisible to the eye.

When you cleaned the OFH, did you remove a plug, spring and plunger?

When you did your build, being a 1993, did you remember the oil squirters for the pistons?

Did you do a BSE? were the front BS bearings flipped to block the oil feeds?

my wires are all connected, the problem is after priming the oil through the oil pressure sending unit and spinning my oil pump with a drill there is no oil coming through the pressure sending unit to my filter. i dont think i cleaned the OFH i just took it off and put it back on. the oil squirters are on, and i never did a BSE. i just dont want to have to take the pump out unless its necessary.

There is only so many things that can be missed or at fault.

What way are you spinning the oil pump gear?

If the small paper gasket is missed between the oil pick up tube and the front case/oil pump, the pump will suck air easier than it will oil.

Also the same will hold true if you have a crack in the pick up tube, mainly happens around the extra hold down.

He is only getting oil in the head by priming it through the sending unit hole, that has nothing to do with the pick-up tube, its on the other side of the oil pump.
I guess I'm not familiar with that method. I've only ever primed the system with the oil pump.

im spinning it clockwise. i guess im gonna have to take it apart again, your right there is only so much that could be wrong. so if that gasket is there and no crack in the tube, then its my pump thats bad which i dont see how it could be.

One thing to check before you rip it all apart, pull the oil pump gear nut and make sure the gear is seated properly.

Also did you remove the castle plug for the rear balance shaft? maybe you forgot the bolt for the rear balance shaft?

you mean take the sprocket off? how would i check if its seated properly. are you talking about the bolt thats by the engine mount in the back thats not holding anything, ya that is in its place

No, the hole in the oil gear has a flat spot, to mate to the shaft of the oil pump. if you did not align the flat spot on the gear with the flat spot of the shaft, the gear may spin, but the pump would not.

This is a long shot, but still worth a look.

o ya thats on right. well i guess i have to take off, thanks for your help, ill keep you guys posted

I doubt you will get a reply. The thread is 10 years old. I always thank those that put a conclusion to their problem for others, like you, to see what the problem was.

Hey, did you ever figure out what was going on with this?
As already said you probably won't get a reply since the thread is ten years old. Best to probably start a new thread.

If you are trying to get oil pressure and installed the oil pump totally dry my suggestion would be to give a burst of compressed air down the dipstick tube while cranking the engine. Don't hold air on it for a long time. Just give it a few bursts. You can blow seals out on the engine by holding air on it too long
