Hi there, I am wondering what I should get next?? You can see my current mods on my profile. I am planning on dynoing my car soon and was wondering which mod would yield more HORSEPOWER... I remember reading here that the MAFT and GM MAF combo "Flows ALOT BETTER than the stock MAS". Well, I am using the stock MAS blowing off into the atmosphere w/ a very tight spring on my turboxs type H, so my car doesn't have any idle problems and does not try to die out after blowing off. It seems to run normal.

So, bottom line.. with the mods I have, which mod will give me more horsepower? Brian Crower 272 CAMS, or GM MAF/ MAFT setup??? If you have other cams that you would recommend, please let me know.. Thanks!

Mark

A new bov that you can recirulate, thats how you will gain more power. Then after that do cams.

if his idle is fine and his car doesnt die then his current setup is perfect. cars that have bad idle or die because they're venting to atmosphere are usually the cause of a leaky bov, in which he doesnt have so he's fine..

personally if the maf you have now is working for you, i'd go with cams... and wait for the gm maft setup tilll later and ## makin more power, the 2nd gen maf is fine untill u just really wanna change to a blow thru setup, or you get a much bigger turbo. so get cams and enjoy!! :thumb:

Its not about what you can get away with, its about doing what is right. Venting to the atmosphere while running the stock MAF sensor is not correct. You lose a lot of metered air between shifts.

Tightening the BOV so it doesnt open at idle puts more stress on the compressor wheel of the turbo and is not good for it.

Either go with GM Maf/translator or get a different BOV and cams.

Cams will overall give you the most power, but what good is power on a dyno if the car acts differently while driving it on the street? I mean sure venting to the atmosphere doesnt hurt anything on the dyno, but you also arent doing a full multiple gear pull on the dyno either.

Just a heads up here. Brian Crower cams are on back order until around May. I just cancelled my order because of this. The price is right, but that doesn't help if you can't buy them. Go with cams now, and if you want to increase power later, the dsmlink's next upgrade(coming when? ) will have built in support for a GM MAF.

like beccari56 said, the BC cams are on back order for months. since you have a 16g setup, the perfect combo for that turbo is 264/272. good luck with the setup:talon:

You could save some money and pick up the DKS 264/272 or just 272's from FFWD they're the same as HKS for half the price. Also you dont need to upgrade your Mas, the stock 2g is good for around 400hp. You wont see any gain from going to MAF-T except the ability to tune your injectors wich you already have on the AFC Neo.

... I remember reading here that the MAFT and GM MAF combo "Flows ALOT BETTER than the stock MAS".

This may be true if you were talking about the 1G mas, but the 2G mas flows a significant amount of air through it, and your turbo won't be any trouble for a stock 2G mas. In my opinion, if you do end up with a turbo large enough that this mas becomes a choke point, you should probably think about going to a speed density setup.

I had the maf and translator before and I didn't like it. That's why I'm biased against it. Maybe if I had it installed in the same location as the stock mas I wouldn't have had the tuning problems I did, but I don't see any good reason you should replace your 2G mas with this. Your money is better spent elsewhere, like on cams.

I hate the maf-t too, but with the version 2 and dsmlink it actually works really good.
