okay folks. i just got a 98 eclipse gsx with 89,000 miles. here's the problem it runs lean at all times. not sure what turbo it's running but it has a greddy bov and fmic. whats the best way to fix this.

pics of turbo ... any numbers off from it would help. check your injectors to see if there stock. that would be a start

there are some numbers stamped on it that say MHI and then a number like 73 or something. It looks kinda small though.. check the numbers there is a nice write up on here for identifying the turbo once you have the numbers

take off that intake pipe and there should be some numbers behind it post them?

here are some numbers for you see if this helps you

Maybe that car doesnt have enough supporting mods for the amount of boost your running...You should check your injector to see if there stock...And make sure they are all working rite..

could be your fuel pump going out, clogged fuel filter, low voltage to fuel pump or injectors, messed up maf, low fuel pressure, overboost, hacked maf.

also take off your maf and look on the bottom of it, see if it still has the factory gunk sealing it. if its been removed, take the maf off your pipe and take the filter off. look at the lil knob looking thing on the bottom of the maf where the screw is. if its all the way out, it could be the reason youre running lean.

and if the maf is missing any honeycombs, it could also be the cause.

wideband?????? i will get the numbers today. i have a exhuast with 2.5 piping and no cat. not sure if that will make a difference. i put 89 octane

Okay, for starters, DO NOT put 89 octane in there. These cars take premium ONLY!!! Says it right there on the gauge cluster as well. Not unless you wanna kill your motor.

Aside from that, what numbers are you seeing on your wideband?

have you moded this car at all? if so you should update your profile to reflect this. i would say it might be time to look at some fuel upgrades. def. a hi-flo filter and probably a pump. if you had a way to tune the car i'd look at some injectors too.

That's what I'm thinking, about the wideband that is. I feel like something else is going on.

Okay, to get to the root of the problem, what is your car doing. If in fact, you do have a wideband, need to know what numbers it's putting out. If you don't have a wideband, need to know what your car is doing so we can help ya out.

LOL i do have a narrow band gauge. i just bought the car a day ago. he told me what he put on there but i got 2 in the morning so i kinda of forgot. ok this is what it does, under acceleration it starts to spudder and bog down a little. if i change out the gas i wonder if that might help? check engine light is on as well. i pulled off the intake pipe but where should the numbers be

sounds either like boost leaks or a misfire if its happening under acceleration... i recommend you go to the nearest auto zone and get the codes pulled, that will definitely help out and will probably lead you in the general direction of what to look at...

the numbers would be on the face of the turbo (same side that you took off the intake pipe)

Yeah, you need to pull the code and see what that is 1st and foremost. Autozone will pull the code for free. 2nd, a number of things could cause it to bog/sputter. Too rich, too lean, incorrect plugs, incorrect plug gap, boost leak, etc.

Would help us more to help you if we knew exactly what mods your car has. If it's stock turbo, it's not even an issue. Wideband would help greatly right now. Anyone in your area that can help with logging your car to see if it's knocking, etc.? After you pull the codes, pull a spark plug or 2. Tell us what kind you have, what the gap is set at, and what they look like on the tip (color). Dual prong, single prong, platinum plug, copper? What brand, as in NGK, Autolite, etc. This would help a lot as well because if you don't have good fire from the plug, you're gonna sputter/bog and is an easy step to take to see what's going on.

we dont have a autozone here.im going to get the code some time after three. im getting it done at a junoir college. there just charging me ten bucks. okay the guy i bought it from said that all the fuel is stock. i have some people that know where to get it tuned but they say they go to dallas.(3 hrs away). would up gradeing injectors help.i can get some 550cc for free, but it will need to be tuned right?what are our stock injectors.
