I would like to say hello first of all, cause this is my first post. Im not new to tuning at all but turbos are a new thing to me. so i have a few simple questions to start off... first (and forgive me if its posted elsewhere), but is the TD05h Turbo the big 16g? and second. what is the difference in and external wastgate and internal... which is better? thanks for the info
Dave

i believe that is the turbine wheel size if I'm not mistaken. i think its found on the 14b the 16g and possibly the 20g. I'm not positive. also internal wastgates are less expensive than external ones. the only real difference is that some turbos require you to use one because they do not have an internal and they also hold power better than an internal. one is only required in high hp/boost applications.

Welcome first off. Check out www.VFAQ.com for a lot of DSM info and writeups and such. You'll find yourself there more often than not. The above post is correct also, about the TD05. There are a lot of "stickies" throughout the site also. Check them out for a lot of info on the do's and don'ts.

The TD05 turbo is found on the 14b and the 16g turbos. I believe the 20g isn't though. The 20g is the TD06h. And about the wastegates, what he said is pretty much what i know. I've always used the internal ones but yet again never owned or boosted over 20 psi.

You can also find the 18g and 19c with a TD05h, but then again, you can opt for the 18g in the TD06h size

Partly true. The second post was correct as I stated. The 20g comes with the TD05 and TD06 compressor housing.

To answer your question about wastegates, people tend to lean towards external wastegates in high-boost applications. They are more effective than internals, and can deal with larger amounts of boost. There is, however, a significant price jump when switching to internal. What is "best" really comes down to your goals and your wallet.
