So let me start out by saying I am no stranger to cars and this just happens to be my first DSM after years of wanting one. That said I could use some help with it.

First thing is about the car. The previous owner had stated that he had parked it when it got a flat and had a dead battery though my suspicion is that he has messed something up.

When I first got it it running it would start but had an erratic idle and would buck hard around 4500rpm so I ended up towing it home. Now here is where the issues start. I gave the car a complete once over and aside from a few minor leaks I am in the process of fixing Its a mechanically sound. I went out today to try and get it running again after doing all the mechanical checks I could it seems to be having more issues. It will start and crank just fine but once its running it shakes hard and wont hold a steady idle and at WOT it will stop around 4500prm again. It will also occasionally flash the CEL but it wont stay steady and the rpm it flashes at varies.

My only guess because it has a data logger and I found a DSMLink cable and CD in the car is that it could be an issue inside the ECU but I don't trust my skills enough to poke around inside there yet. And I have tried pulling any Engine codes but my scanner wouldn't connect to it.

I'm open to any suggestions or ideas even mechanical I would just very much like to get it running again so I can start to fix the issues with my current daily driver.

Thank you for reading and I apologize for the long post but I wanted to be as through as I could. I'm also capable of posting pics or videos of issues if it would be helpful.

Pull the ecu and inspect for any damage and burned spots for starters, so you can rule that out, still could be a ecu problem, since you know you have cels.

Pull out the ecu and check it, both for damage, and to see if it is flashed.

It seems to be common for people to pull out the socketed ecu, throw a stocker in there, and then the car runs bad because there are eleventy million different ecus for 2g's.

Well upon inspection of the ecu the harness has been tapped into as well as it has 95 talon written on it so I'm gonna guess I found my issue.

Yeah I'm gonna check locally for someone who can maybe flash it back to stock and see if that solves my issues. It had an eprom chip inside with dsmlink v2 so here's to hoping. Thanks a lot guys. I have a lot of wire chasing to do now.

As a rule of thumb, first thing I do with a new DSM is check what's going on with the ecu. Seems like there is always something. Got lucky on my spyder, imagine my surprise when I found a AEM series 2! :sneaky::thumb::hellyeah:

Sounds like a boost leak or misfire. I would run a boost leak test and give the car a tune up. Replace whatever plugs are in it with NGK BPR6ES gapped to around .028".

I also see your local, so shoot me a PM if you need any help.

Check your Cam Angle Sensor, but first check the spark plugs, their gaps, and the wires. But if the CAS is not functioning properly it should make the cars threshold a low RPM to not cause engine damage. I could be wrong tho

Yeah I got a hell of a long list of things to test on it today. Though the CAS makes sense on the Rev limiter.
