New to tuning,is it possible to tune a 2g for knock with just a datalogger?

I believe I read that a datalogger does not read knock on a 2g. I want to buy a safc and datalogger to tune the knock, is it possible to figure out when your car is knocking on a datalogger by looking at the other trims on the logger? Or is it best to just get dsmlink?

Darn good question there! I like that you're going about your tuning safely and responsibly. To answer your question, a 2G datalogger will not show knock, but in general you can detect knock by looking for dips in timiing. The downside is that you won't be able to see how much knock, but if timing's being pulled it's generally close to 10 counts or more. It's the "how much" question I'd be concerned with.

The ONLY way to see knock on a 2G in terms of a physical value is:

1. DSMLink
2. EPROM ECU/Keydiver Chip and have the stock boost gauge set to read knock (it will show up to 15 counts).

If you're on a budget, you can go with the second option and an AFC, but for around the same money as those two you could buy an EPROM ECU and DSMLink and be done for as long as you own the car.

Hey thanks. I think I may just get dsmlink if I can find a ecu at a good price. I want to see the actual knock count.
