is it possible to weld aluminum with a mig?

I have a 110v Mig welder and i wanted to weld some aluminum pieces together for a side job, can i just set it to a low amperage and high feed? its only 18gauge aluminum sheet connected to a 2 1/2" pipe (.0675) or should i just braze it with the oxy act?

You won't be able to you need to use aluminum filler wire, and to do that you need a spool gun, because the aluminum is too soft for the regular mig gun.

I would say the answer is a qualified yes. You need either the feed gun mentioned above, or a special liner for the hose that will prevent kinking of the aluminum wire. You will need a gas that is meant for welding aluminum and the proper feed wire. You had also better know what you're doing; otherwise, you're more likely to end up with a puddle of melted metal.

In the end, it's probably better to use a TIG; but once again, you'd better know what you're doing.
