Hello to everbody in this forum. I'm new to all of this so from time to time I may ask a foolish question or two so bear with me. I just recently purchased a 1991 Talon TSi Turbo FWD for $7,600.00 Canadian and the Car was in MINT condition, never winter driven, always stored indoors, 100,000 kms., one owner (A Doctor) who always did the regular maintenance and anything else that needed to be done, and always a couple of good coats of Mother's Wax on her. She is in Pristine condition on the inside as well as under the hood, Pictures will follow soon so you can see for youself. What do you think? Also, I plan on doing some modifications, nothing outrageous but enough to put her around 250 HP. I'm thinking a mechanical boost gauge mounted on a single A Pillar Pod, a K & N High FLow Air Filter System to replace the whole stock can filter that is there now, and a new blow-off valve...Does this sound reasonable? That would do it for mods under the hood for now. The rest would be looks items like 17" Sniper Rims, and a neon purple ground effect kit.

Let's here those comments...I'm new to this stuff so all advise and help would be appreciated. ;)

Make sure you recirculate your BOV. It will still be easily heard, especially if you get a hard UICP (Upper Intercooler Pipe).

I take it there was a mild debate on BOV sound??

Yeah, there always is. Don't even mention doing anything for sound alone. This site is focused on preformance.

Some people get away with 89 for DD. I have to use 93 or you can actually hear the knocking.

$20 says he sells the Mustang within a year. :p

ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL ROFL

:D

He might have a point, I felt the same way about my SER SpecV . . . . . . . .

As far as your question goes I have one thing to say, MAINTENANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!! change the belts, all the fluids, seals, filters, ect. Any car can be reliable as long as it's treated right and you do your MAINTENANCE!

Edit: I know it's a bit off topic, but I felt it needed to be said, especially about these cars.

OUCH, i guess ill stick with the good gas. Sorry for the blind questions, but like i said, all my experience is with stangs and supercharging. Nothing at all with 4cyl turbo and AWD. Do the parts from the eclipse transfere to the talon or were they really different?

Most every part transfers from eclipse to talon as long as you stick with your generation. You have a 2g, 95-99. Some parts tranfer from the 1g, but not a whole lot. And I disagree that he will sell the mustang, I think the stang will become his DD and the talon will become his drag car. :DROFL:D

Just take the talon to the track and race it for the day, the avatar will change at that point.

From a friend , good deal ?
And before everyone spends your money on this part or that , do the maintanance first . Unless of course you know when it was done . Things like the timing belt and components , water pump , belts ..... What engine do you have in it ? 6 or 7 bolt ? Do a compression test . Do a boost leak test . You will want to address these things first before you start adding things to increase power . It will help to keep the trouble shooting down if problems arise .

Also to help us help you fill out as much of your vehicle profile as possible . For the DSM not the Ford .

Before you belive them when they say "I did (this) and (this) and . . . " get the proof of purchase, the written word will always trump the spoken word.

If they don't have a proof of purchase, it didn't happen . . . . . . thats your safest bet.

Agreed... maintenance is a must, but being that you already own a track driven Mustang, I'm sure you don't need us to tell you that. Boost leaks and fluids are the easy ones. The timing belt (water pump) is a must for peace of mind. After that... you should be good to go.

People keep implying that the op has a 1g. It is a 2g 96 awd talon. So he will need a bov, he doesn't have a 14b and a lot of the help he's received is "dispensable".:tease:

Before he edited his first post it said he had a 94. That is why he said "Car is a 96, sorry had to check." in post 11. So if you look at the time he edited the post (2:49) you can see up to post 12 would be correct in thinking he has a 1g.

So it is not our fault "a lot of the help he's received is "dispensable"."

Again thanks for all the advise. As far as the"friend" goes and making sure all the work was done, Its not some kid, hell im almost 27, but the guy that had the work done was in his 50's. It was his daughters car, she blew up the motor, so they had a new motor and turbo put in, and then the car was just driven every once in a while. He hates the car, and wantes nothing to do with it, and sold it for a $1000 off what he originally wanted just to get it out of his driveway. I have driven it, and it drives fine, no real noise that worries me. I can feel the turbo spool up, though it does take a few seconds. But like i said, daily driver, i was more or less just trying to figure a way to get rid of some of the lag, thus the exhaust and innercooler, the 2 things i figured would be restricting air flow. And, since i would be messing with flow, i figured, couldnt hurt to change BOV. NOW, someone said since its a 2G, it would be a good idea to change the BOV? How much boost is the stock setup push on these cars? Ive read 10-14 in the tech forum If i remember right.

Hey, im not ganna become one of those guys that comes on to a forum and tells you how much better my car is then yours, because really, im not ganna change anyones mind. And besides, i think the guys that drive camaros and whatever that come on to mustang forums and tell me how much my car sucks are douches. So that being said, I LOVE my mustang. I would never trade the sound, and the feeling i get when im driving it. In my mind, there is nothing better then a lopeing V8, xpipe and magnaflow exhaust. Believe it or not, when it was time to buy a car, I looked at the RX7, Talon AWD/ Eclipse GSX, and a Mustang Cobra. I looked at what all the cars ran for stock times. I looked at performance upgrades and longevity of parts. And, for the money, you cant pass up a mustang in stock performance and parts longevity for the price you pay. YES, there are some fast import guys and fast DSM (i still have no clue what that stands for) but, the price for parts for the HP value, for me, was not there at all. $600 for a single exhaust pipe cat back?? WTF !! So, thats why i have always stayed with mustangs. And i finally got one that i really like. I know i will have fun in the talon, but, i will not race it. This whole statement is not ment to belittle anyone, just say hey, this is how i feel, im not here to bash anyone, just looking for some good info, which you guys have been more then helpful.

DSM stands for Diamond Star Motors.. and yes a stock DSM could easily beat a stock gt.. and i dont think you got ## stang for $1500 like i got my laser for.. but yes mustangs are my favorite muscle car of all time and im a ford guy for life but a dsm is the best bang for the buck...

I love the sound of mustangs with an exhaust. I am thinking about buying one for my next car. The next car will either be a 03-04 cobra or a 97-04 corvette. Probably the corvette as that has always been a dream car of mine.

BTW, dsm stands for Diamond Star Motors.

I like the sound of a Mustang as well,my Dad had a '67 3-speed automatic with 289 when I was a kid...junked it in the late 70's because he was told where the frame cracked wasn't repairable(it was:toobad:). I completely understand your position on the exhaust, but there are ways around that $600,Ebay comes to mind:D You will def have fun with your Talon!

I was just having a little fun, in no way did I mean to come off as sounding like american muscle sucks compared to our beloved DSM's.

As for how much PSI our stock system is set at, you're right that the stock system pushes anywhere from 11-14 lbs. Depending on what you're intentions are... on the stock T25 you could probably turn the boost up to 16 (maybe 17 lbs) without having to upgrade your entire fuel system. The T25 pretty much is worthless when revving any higher then 5500... no matter how many lbs. you turn the boost up to.

If your BOV is leaking when boosting that high, then you can do 1 of 2 things: Get an aftermarket BOV, or go with a crushed 1g BOV (cheaper).

Well, what does a stock Talon 2g talon run? And yes, maybe, depending on the year, it could be a stock gt. But, i was getting a 96 cobra at the time. Probably the one car i should have never got rid of.

With a good driver a stock dsm will run 14.8-15.1 in most cases.

not too bad. My 95, being heavy and underpower, ran 14.8 when i first got it. My stock 92 would run pretty consistant 14.4 and the cobra, stock with 18's and nitto's, which have to be the worst tire ever!!, was runing 13.8.
