Hello to everbody in this forum. I'm new to all of this so from time to time I may ask a foolish question or two so bear with me. I just recently purchased a 1991 Talon TSi Turbo FWD for $7,600.00 Canadian and the Car was in MINT condition, never winter driven, always stored indoors, 100,000 kms., one owner (A Doctor) who always did the regular maintenance and anything else that needed to be done, and always a couple of good coats of Mother's Wax on her. She is in Pristine condition on the inside as well as under the hood, Pictures will follow soon so you can see for youself. What do you think? Also, I plan on doing some modifications, nothing outrageous but enough to put her around 250 HP. I'm thinking a mechanical boost gauge mounted on a single A Pillar Pod, a K & N High FLow Air Filter System to replace the whole stock can filter that is there now, and a new blow-off valve...Does this sound reasonable? That would do it for mods under the hood for now. The rest would be looks items like 17" Sniper Rims, and a neon purple ground effect kit.

Let's here those comments...I'm new to this stuff so all advise and help would be appreciated. ;)

just remember that you will have to work on it or have someone work on it because these cars are know to be driven hard and they are pretty old . Also check if the cars smoke if it does it could be a few things either turbo or rings. Just remember when you buy one you will never want to own anything else

Aite here is the deal. I had a 03 nissan SER spec-v, but never did any work on it. I always wanted to but never brought myself around to doing anything. A few months ago i hit a deer and now I am gettin rid of it. I want an AWD car that is inexpensive and that I can work on myself.. so i got to lookin and came across DSMs.
Now I have been seein in the forums here that these types of cars take some work. This is my only problem. This will be my first car I work on myself, so will i be able to do this or do you think it might be a bit to much for a first?
Like i said, I really want an AWD that I can work on and that is inexpensive. So can someone give me some advice on what I should do. I figure this would be smarter than to just go out and buy one just to find out that it is a lost cause.
Thanks

by all means they are great cars and have their specific set of quirks, but all that info can be found here on the forums. Buy a manual for the car and do your homework. If you are making an effort to figure things out on your own then anyone here will help you. You can buy my car if you want a headstart on things. its FWD though.

They are good cars and strong motors, if your daily driving them then stay away from modding the car until you get the $$ to fix it if you break it.

I HAD THE SAME QUESTION 6 OR SO MONTHS AGO,
I WENT AHEAD AND WENT DSM,
SPENT 4500 DOLLARS FIXING/MODDING IT,
NOW I HAVE A ESTIMATED 290WHP DAILY DRIVER,
JUST HIT 31MPG OUT OF THE LAST TANK.
2ND GEN GSX!

BUY IT, FIX IT, DRIVE IT. DONT ASSUME THERES NOTHING WRONG WITH IT WHEN YOU GET IT, JUST ASSUME YOU'LL BE FIXING IT BEFORE YOU DRIVE IT, SO YOUR NOT SUPRISED WHEN YOU HAVE TO.:sneaky:

Nice.... I went and looked at other AWD cars around the same price range as DSMs n the only thing I could find was some subies and the VR4 300GT. The GT looks pretty appealing but i would think since it has a twin turbo it might take a bit more work to keep going. It is pretty much looking like i will go with the Eclipse/Laser/Talon.
Can any of u let me know which year... make... and what price would be expected out of the best deal?
Thanks

My advice? Run away and run fast.

cant go wrone with dsm
awd at 400hp can destroy a 2jz with twice yea i said twice the power ive seem it done!!!ROFL:thumb::tease::dsm::talon::laser:

Wanna back that statement up with some timeslips? I got back from the track last weekend with constant 93 1/8th mile traps in a 2jz-gte running 1 bar on 285 BFG street tires. Swapping out the old blown turbo, going to finalize the pump gas tune and add meth, drag radials, and increase boost; trying to break 100mph this year.

that would depend on what you want from the car. but personally my vote is the 1GA. i love the look and the peace of mind of having a nice realiable 6bolt to start off with

my suggestion is to 1- go to the classifieds on this site. even if you dont actually buy a car through them it will give you a great idea of what is out there and roughly the pricing. and then check out your local classifieds and maybe check the tack board at your local tuner shop.
