Hello to everbody in this forum. I'm new to all of this so from time to time I may ask a foolish question or two so bear with me. I just recently purchased a 1991 Talon TSi Turbo FWD for $7,600.00 Canadian and the Car was in MINT condition, never winter driven, always stored indoors, 100,000 kms., one owner (A Doctor) who always did the regular maintenance and anything else that needed to be done, and always a couple of good coats of Mother's Wax on her. She is in Pristine condition on the inside as well as under the hood, Pictures will follow soon so you can see for youself. What do you think? Also, I plan on doing some modifications, nothing outrageous but enough to put her around 250 HP. I'm thinking a mechanical boost gauge mounted on a single A Pillar Pod, a K & N High FLow Air Filter System to replace the whole stock can filter that is there now, and a new blow-off valve...Does this sound reasonable? That would do it for mods under the hood for now. The rest would be looks items like 17" Sniper Rims, and a neon purple ground effect kit.

Let's here those comments...I'm new to this stuff so all advise and help would be appreciated. ;)

We're going to pick up our puppy this weekend and then keep working on the car situation, but it might be a little while.

Well I currently have a '93 Mazda MX6 LS
'93 MX6 LS
and the headgaskets are beginning to go, so I'm looking at parting it out and buying a talon TSI/eclipse GSX in the next month and I have a few questions.

I would prefer an eclipse GSX, but I can't seem to find any in Ontario, can anyone recommend and sites for finding eagles/talons in Ontario? So far all I've used is trader.ca.

Do the mirrors attach with 3 bolts/screws like mazdas and hondas do? Depending on how they look on the new car, I would like to put on the power folding mirrors purely for aesthetics if possible. I know this will require some rewiring to work for the mirror adjustment controls, but I've done a fair bit of wiring before and am confident I can figure that out.

Also from my Mazda I'm planning on putting in my muffler (purely because I know I wont get my money back for it when parting it out), my battery (optima yellow top), potentially my seats, depending on how comfortable and supportive the new car's are (I know I'll probably need to manufacture some brackets but I'm pretty good at welding and should be able to make it work)

Here is my main question though, I am thinking about putting my mazda's spoiler on the new car. If anyone could provide any information or incite on this I would greatly appreciate it. I'd like to know is trunk lid length, opinion on how you think it would look and if someone could do a photoshop that would be great.
thanks, Brian

I drive a '94 mx6 red just like yours for my daily and as far as the spoiler question goes, if you could fit it on (which nothing is impossible) it would probably(meaning definitley) look horrible on a 1g and as for a 2g, which i am assuming you are talking about, personally i think the stock spoilers look best on those also especially a gsx....
...the battery will fit with some modification
... I am sure you can get the muffler to fit
....unless you have racing seats, the stock dsm seats are just as good as the mazda's

Hey there, im greg and im new to the forum and just bought a Talon. Its a 96 AWD turbo, with automatic, and i dont know crap about these cars! Im a mustang guy and this car is going to be my new daily driver. All i am looking to is give it a little more pep, some style and like i said, get to work on time. The only mods that i have really thought about doing is- Exhaust including down pipe, BOV, Lowering, Wheels and bigger innercooler. Do these mods sound like they would be ok, or do i need to do other supporting things? How big of wheels and tires can i run? What size exhaust pipe and what muffler? What type of progressive rate springs will give me a sporty look and good handling? And where do you guys buy your parts from? Like i said, this is not going to be a race car, I have my mustang for that, I just want something that i can drive to work, and have a little power when i want to pass someone. Thanks for your help!!:)

$20 says he sells the Mustang within a year. :p

To the OP... of the things you mentioned, only the downpipe, exhaust and intercooler will effect your performance... mainly the exhaust as the stock sidemount can cool the stock turbo at stock boost levels just fine. Most catback exhaust set up come with the muffler already attached. I really like Megan Racing's 3" DP and catback, but I'm not sure what 1g users prefer. Search through the vendors that support this website and you're sure to find something you like. Keep an eye out for group buys too, that'll save you some cash.

I can understand the wheels for appearance, but getting an aftermarket BOV right now is kind of a waste. The stock 1g BOV can hold boost very well, again especially at stock boost levels.

If you're looking for just a bit more "pep" you'd be better off buying a boost gauge first, and then a Manual Boost Controller so that you can up the boost level.

Before anything put an aftermarket boost gauge in the car. I would get a 2.5" exhaust to keep costs down since you don't want a fast car. Get a Walbro 190lph fuel pump and rewire it. Keep the stock blow off valve setup. It is a waste of money to buy an aftermarket one unless you need it because it can't hold the boost you are running. The stock intercooler is fine if you aren't going to be beating on the car a lot.

I buy most of my parts from Welcome To Slowboy Racing

Next time please search.

I agree with 95carbon, I would just get full exhaust, hard intercooler piping, boost gauge and boost controller. If you think that you'll putting more money in it to make it go faster, I would say get a bigger then.

Also if your looking at slowboyracing check out extremepsi.com, some of there stuff is cheaper then slowboy

Figured id do the intro and get the questions out of the way in one post. Like i said, i know nothing about these cars and really dont even know what to look for. I did look through tech, which had good info on how to do things, but the problem was more on what to do then how. Thanks for the help anyway.

cool, sounds like a plan.

Now im thinking about 17in wheels, do i run a 7in wide?? what offset and what size tires?

Sell the mustang??? NO WAY MAN!!..LOL The BOV was honestly for sound, didnt figure it needed to be bigger with the low boost. Thanks for you help though!

I was like you 1 years ago.

I suggest you what i did :

1-Boost gauge and manual boost contoler
2-Downpipe 2.5 with cat-back 2.5
3-aluminium upper intercooler pipe (for ## sidemount) from Punishment racing
4-NGK spak plug
5-Hack maf
6-turbo outlet elbow from Dejon tool

Before doing all of this, i really suggest you to do some maintenance

-change your wires
-block your EGR with a blockoff plate
-Change timing belts
-check all sensor and ajust them
-check ## timing
-Check for leaks, oil leaks, clugged turbo oil line, etc

etc...

you can have some really good advice in the tech informations of the sites.

Evans

if you have any question, just pm me

Car is a 96, sorry had to check. It has a newer motor and turbo in it, so it doesnt leak or really need any work done to it. It was bought from a friend. But the wires and hotter plugs would be a good route.

lets not start this again...:beatentodeath:

I take it there was a mild debate on BOV sound??

I'm sure that you don't need "hotter" plugs. Stick with the stockers (NGK BPR6ES) until you start pushing 17-18 lbs. that's when you'll want to move to a "colder" plug, the BPR7ES.

Also, is the newer turbo the stock T25 turbo? maybe the previous owner upgraded to a 14b or even a 16g. When you have a chance, try to read the numbers on the compressor housing or even describe how the outlet pipe routes. That'll help us figure out which turbo you already have on there. Who knows, you could be sitting on a goldmind.

It is recommended that you don't run less than 93 if you have it or 91 for a lot of you Cali guys. I run c16 at the track. On the street I run 93 octane pump gas or c16 depending on what I am doing. If I am going for a long ride I use pump gas. If I am going for a joy ride I will use c16.

You ahould only run premium 92 or 93 octane. Never lower especially if you might turn up the boost, you would get bad knock and ruin your engine. Good Luck
