I have just recently had my engine rebuilt. I was 380 miles into the break in of the engine and the car started missing real bad. The next day I went to take it to the shop and it wouldn't start. The car drove fine for 380 miles and the timing was correct with no obvious problems I can see now except for every intake valve is bent. I am thinking that the intake cam somehow slipped timing because there are no problems with any exhaust valves. I am just trying to see if someone here might have any insight for me so this doesn't happen again.

Here is most of the engine rebuild:
20 over
JE Forged Pistons
Balance Shaft Eliminator kit
Arp Main Studs
Arp Head Studs
Metal Head Gasket

Thanks

Sounds exactly like what happened to dacowgod recently. Loaded the car on the trailer, went to the track, and the car wouldn't start even though it just ran a few hours prior.

Problem ended up being a failed Topline oil pump which caused the crank to jump time a little....enough to crash all of the intake valves.

The Dowel pins are in good shape, the bolts holding the cam gear to the cam are fine. The oil pump is also fine. Any other Ideas?

Thanks for all the help.

Busted cam just behind the cam gear. Far feched I know, but possiable.

You checked all the time alginment marks yourself?

There is only so many things that can fail to cause your problem.

1) time belt breaks
2) the cam gear nut backs out
3)The cam dowel fails
4)The crank key shears allowing the gear to turn out of time of the crank

I would agree with the tensioner. That happened to my Avenger with the 420a motor. Rebuilt with all new parts except the tensioner and boom skipped 2 teeth on the exhaust cam and 4 on the intake cam. The motor is as good as the weakest link and that was mine. Do it once and you learn from your mistakes. Hope things turn out ok for you.
