new dsm owner, WHAT TO DO???

i just purchased my first dsm, a 99 mitsubishi eclipse gs(non turbo). im very excited to start working on it performance wise, but im not exactly sure what i should do. i want power. but nothing too extreme that it wont be able to handle. i have an intake, a catback exhaust, and i plan on adding a header. my question is, what can i do to get the best performance out of a non turbo eclipse? what parts will help and how? your advice is greatly appreciated!!

to be honest... im not trying to be a d!ck but i would keep it like that until i could find a a good tsi, gst, gsx, in other words a turbo eclipse... the reason why im saying it is because if you drive one and see how it pulls you will be surpriced, other than that it takes alot of money to make a non turbo car fast.... i mean with all that money that was spent to make the car as fast as it is... a gst will outrun you with everything stock..... seen them,, they are fast stock.. just my opinion.... and not saying to ditch your car cause its junk... im just saying my side of the opinion... other than that i would say a computer chip and test pipe.... maybe a shot of laughing gas...!!!!

I'm not sure what your budget is but I would start with the cheap stuff. Spark plugs and wires, a new or ported throttle body,chip, and even nitrous. If you have big money and insist on keeping it then you can just jump straight into internals. But as mentioned before its a lot cheaper and easier to just get a turbo dsm. Your car is a 99 and if in good condition you could sell it and pick up a first gen thats already boosted. Welcome to the DSM scene though.

n2o will be the best bang 4 ## buck, but like stated above get a turbo dsm and start there. i went from a 95 mustang, to a 99 gs-t, to a 95 gsx and love the dsm's you wont be unhappy if you switch, but learn from others mistkes and dont cut corners in either direction you choose do it right the first time btw gl w/ your car let us know what happens

Cams is a good way to go with a N/T. They aren't too terribly expensive and will give you a decent amount of power for the money. Rebuilding the head completely would also be a good way to go, port it, 3 or 5 angle valve job, valves, and guides and larger diameter TB. You could also boost your N/T if you really want.

Yea it pisses me off when everyone tells the N/A guys like myself to not "waste" your money and just buy a turbo dsm. stick to the 420a section for a while and listen to guys like fotown because they know what they're talking about

I have a buddy that has put about 4000 bucks into his 420a and he's pushin 11 seconds on the 1/4, with around 450 hp. It would eat my TSi AWD for breakfast any day of the week. With money all things are possible.

You could.

a) Go N/A route, get a stroker moter and new internals with new exhaust/intake/headers/cams/fuel stuff etc etc etc

b) Turbo the 420a (this is doable on the 2.0 neon engine and as far as I know they are similiar, lots and lots of parts and time)

c) Fix it up make it look nice and sell it and get a TSI/GSX

I used to drive a non turbo and its night and day, there is honestly nothing better you can do then get a turbo in it or buying a turbo dsm.

going from FWD N/T to AWD Turbo was the most insanely fun thing I have ever done, so much more fun to drive.

I don't know all his mods... I know he's on the bottle and has his B16G bored out. I was just throwing in the idea that even the 420a has mass amounts of potential. It's all about what you want to do with it.

Yeah. It's bored out though, and the internals have been upped. So I guess it's just a 16g housing anymore.
