Hey guys thanks for the help in advance. I just bought a 1990 Talon TSI AWD today, in pretty good shape with about 175,000 on it and about 800 receipts from last month to early 2000. The problem i have is that the car is almost completely stock and the guy bolted an EVO 16G turbo up to it. The car will pull if you ease into it, but goes slow when you mash it. I assume this has to do with a combo of exhaust restrictions and ecu issues resulting from the 16g, but im not sure where do start. Thanks!

More like the timing is getting pulled because of the knock the engine is seeing from running too much boost on too little fuel.

What is your boost level?

Assuming it is stock without an aftermarket boost guage, I would buy one of those first along with a boost controller. I'd say 15psi or less for you for good drivability (ie: no knock).
Previous poster is correct as far as upgrades but that's really not a direct over night solution to your problem.

Jusmx hit it on the head. Your timing is being pulled due to knock. Unless you have a little change to spend and some mechanical knowledge I'd buy a boost controller and TURN DOWN THE BOOST! A EIII16g at 15spi flows more then a 14b at 15psi...thus you couldn't even run that on stock injectors without hitting fuel cut. So first and for most TURN DOWN THE BOOST! Then read up on the modification steps listed on this great dsm sight. Here...I'll even help out. Tech Guide: 1G 4G63t Upgrades - DSMtuners. After you spend all night studying about how to mod a dsm read it again. It's not 100% fool proof but it will guide you in the right direction. Now that you are REALLY ready to mod your dsm...BUY A LOGGER and learn how to use it. It's a must you have a way to tell what's going on inside of your motor. Afterwards, add this site as a favorite VFAQ Site - Visual Frequently Answered Questions because you WILL need it. Now happy modding and enjoy your dsm!

Is the car an automatic by chance?

I'm running the EVO 3 16g on a stock fuel system with an automatic. The only thing I did was upgrade to 450's, and it works great. I have not got fuel cut yet? But I'm only running wastegate pressure at the moment. I have not turned up the boost...Yet. I know I have not modded my car correctly, but It works for me, at the moment..
