Alright i purchsed my 2nd GST about 3 weeks ago and just now have started to be able to get to work on it. So far I have put in a real EvoIII big 16g, walbro 255, afpr, mbc, all hard piping for intercooler, bought and crushed a 1g bov, 3" catback exhaust all the way back, ARP headstuds, apexi boost gauge, and short throw shifter. Now the problem I have is that I managed to do all this in 2 days myself but havent turned boost up past 13 psi for fear of fuel cut. I was told by a semi reliable source that I wouldnt have to go bigger on my injectors, but dont want to find out the hard way. I know that it would be my best option to get bigger ones, but after spending $800 in 3 days the wife has put a stop to my spending:cry: so I really dont have the ability to get bigger ones and especially purchase dsm link or other tuning software...I need to know how much boost I can run with the mods listed. Thanks guys!

i would just stick with stock boost that the wastegate makes. 16g roughly around 10-12 psi. connect a hose straight from jpipe to wastegate. connect the bcs together. this will alow you running stock boost. 255 and afpr is good a start but i would at least leave it at stock boost. no tuning is deadly for the motor. still drivable but i suggest not for a daily driver.

reason why is i ran the same setup without tuning gave me loud knocking after a while and it's my DD.

people will say you're safe at 16 psi with out fuel cut, but every car is different.

Thanks for the suggestion, I hate that I cant afford a solid tune right now, could get it done for $300 at the local performance shop...very depressing getting soo excited about the 16g and the horsepower gains, only to find I cant feel them, at least for now. Also does anyone know what the psi should be at on my afpr with the mods listed above?

Edited: Also if anyone in the green bay, WI area is able to help get a tune done for cheaper than 300 pm me please!

+1 on running stock boost. Save up some cash and buy DSMlink and get some injectors... swap to e85 :hellyeah:. It's worth every penny in my book. I still plan on having mine dyno tuned at some point, but while i'm still modding and changing boost, i dont wanna go spend money to get a tune for something that i will possibly change/upgrade in the next week/month.

You're on a good path to upgrading your car and increasing its performance, but without fuel control or a way of monitoring knock and air/fuel ratios, your hands are tied as far as safely tuning the car goes.

As long as you you keep boost to a reasonable level and don't boost creep (which unported e316g turbos are known to do on free-flowing exhausts), theoretically, you should be fine at stock boost and fuel pressure levels. Every car is different and what may work on one may not work on another. Without the necessary tuning and monitoring devices, there's no way to truly tell if your setup and tune are safe for the heath of your engine.

While only part of the puzzle, see if you can't get a wideband O2 controller to know whether or not your AFR's are at least in the ballpark. Even with the proper AFR, you can still have knock due to ignition timing, fuel octane, intake air temps, compression ratio, etc. Just stay as close to stock levels as you can until you have the means to tune safely and properly or you could be spending money on repairs instead of upgrages.

I agree, keep stock boost levels for now. I ran into your same situation building my other eclipse. I went with bigger injectors and an safcII and a good tune with basically same mods you are running and came out with some nice hp. GL hope to see your car running good soon!

Keep it at stock boost and stock fuel pressure. Your setup is only as good as the weakest link which righ now is the stock injectors. Your next buy should be a datalogger. Then get a wideband. Then get a way to tune it with. Then buy the bigger injectors. The mods you bought are good mods, but I think you should have bought the turbo last. Did you do all maintenance to the car like a timing belt if needed? What was the engine's compression? Did you do a leakdown test is compression wasn't good? As far as places to get a tune, I've heard good things about Beyond Redline up there.

If you have a bigger pump you raise it a pound or two. 15psi shouldnt be a problem. I would get a logger first however so you can see whats going on.

But everything is always to worried about raising boost. I dont no why, as long as you dont go and crank it 10 extra pounds itll be fine. I was safely running 18psi on my small 16g and using a evo 8 pump

Thanks for all the suggestions guys it helped out a lot bringing it to beyond redline(local performance shop) next week and getting a tune and some sort of fuel management while there. As for maintenance the car has 90000 miles and had a new timing belt put on at 80000 also had all fluids flushed and replaced, spark plugs , wires, leaks were all sealed, not too much of a stranger to knowing maintenance comes first I think we've all had our personal experiences...but yeah after the tune and bigger injectors anyone know the ballpark hp figures ill have?

Depends on how much boost you plan on running...with 25 or more psi i'd say that 400 whp would be possible

There's a lot more to it than that.

To the OP, can you give us a full run down of the mods list if your profile is not up to date?

From reading your profile, I think the sidemount is going to be a limiting factor. Running gas, chances are you'll heat soak the side mount at about 17-18 psi. Running e85 will allow more boost. You have the fuel pump and AFPR, just get bigger injectors to run e85. Also, you'll probably need to change your fuel filter a couple times after switching to e85. If you want to stick to gas, I'd say get a front mount or a Supra side mount.

Alright the current setup I have is walbro 255, afpr, k&n air and oil filters, 3" exhaust with the cat cut out, mbc, all hard piping for the intercooler, big 16g came with ported o2 sensor housing, crushed 1g bov, apexi boost oil temp vacuum and volts gauges, stock sidemount, arp headstuds, and ALL maintenance needed. I plan on running at 23-25 psi probably going to stay on 93 gas, not too sure yet. But yeah I was hoping to get in the 350-375 hp range and next week ill either be bringing in for a tune, or buying dsmlink, injectors, fmic, and some new tires:thumb: Decided it was time to sell one of my other cars (1990 300zx) to help achieve the goals for this.:rocks:
So ill have a few thousand to spend on mods now, and if anyone has good suggestions for good injectors, fmic....please let me know! Thanks:D

I think that's a no go on that much hp, with my mods on 93 gas i pushed 280 at 21 psi. Your side mount and injectors are going to slow you down, and I think to be safe I don't think i would run stock internals more than 20-22 psi in my opinion. Keep us posted though on how things go! :hellyeah:

Oh, yeah I know I'm not going to try and crank the hp up that much until internal work is done, thats just my goal eventually. And I was looking around for dsmlink and found dsmlink lite? Was wondering if thats all I would need for now or just go with the one that has more features and capabilities right away. As for internals I dont have much experience in that department and dont want to sound stupid when I go into a shop so if anyone could elaborate on what internals would need to get upgraded it would again be very appreciated. Sorry for straying a little off the subject of thread!
