I need a new clutch in my 2g GSX 7bolt

the engine currently has 300hp and is soon to have 400 after a new turbo/injectors/etc etc...

The transmission is stock, has around 100k miles on it...

I dont drag race the car or dump the clutch, this is my DD.

SO - what is the best clutch i can get for this setup?

Also, would a performance/lightweight flywheel be worth it?

Thanks!

I have no preferred vendor.

I did go through about a dozen sites and forum posts on clutches, and of course there was a hundred different options and offerings. I got confused and decided to just see what others have to say here...

cheers!

Is there a clutch that would likely have too much pressure for my application?

Is there a clutch that is a waste of money when compared to just getting a OEM replacement?

I would look into Southbend clutches. The stage 2 daily series is what I'm looking into 320ft/lbs max torque. Not enough for you but this clutch comes with a flywheel and is $198 on thmotorsports. Anybody know why this clutch is so cheap?

Ok, here comes the noob question...

What stage? Not sure what that means entirely :p

The car is all stock except or the engine, which is being rebuilt now with upgraded internals, balance shaft delete and all new seals, bearings, etc etc.

So what stage is a 2g gsx that has a 400hp built motor and just needs to run great for as long as possible?

I'd consider looking at the South Bend clutches and see if that's something that would work for your setup.

I got the SS/TZ model and have been happy with it for just over two years now on my 1g. I contacted Tim Zimmer from TMZ Performance (his username on this site is twicks69) as he had them for a good price.

My car doesn't make huge power; small 16g now at 18psi with supporting mods, but its survived DD duty, Bandimere nights, and a lot of back roads driving in the mountains.

Nice, thats what i am looking for really. I have a good line on the clutch now.

should i get a lightweight flywheel or is that a waste of money?

I actually had a lighter weight Fidanza flywheel on my old FWD turbo Laser. However, the Laser was equipped with a stock style clutch from Napa. My current 92 Talon has the South Bend clutch I was talking about. The only reason I state that is, my experience doesn't come from a South Bend/lightweight flywheel combo. Don't want to mislead anyone :)

Anyway, I could definitely tell the difference in the way the engine revved. Felt much "freer" and gave the impression of a more energetic and agile motor. The car was mildy modded with a full exhaust. The car wasn't actually faster, it just changed the feel.
I've read a lot of people have trouble with the car stalling out between shifts when they use a lighter flywheel. The Fidanza doesn't maintain the same rotational momentum that the heavier flywheel does. I personally never had any stalling, but the car was on the stock 14b turbo.

I sold the Laser and am selling the flywheel now (won't fit your car though, sorry). Overall, price for result, not quite worth it in my opinion. That's just me though. I'd read around and look at other people's experience and make a decision from there.

Nice, ok. i will keep looking.

So many options for everything! i could get buried in just trying to pick which part to get for this car :p

I have been using ACT since 2006 with no abnormal failures. The kits were on sale at extremepsi.com. I snagged two 2600 kits because the pricing was really good. I have been happy with their flywheel as well. I would suggest when you shop for a clutch to also pick up an OEM throwout bearing, pivot ball, clutch fork, and retainer for the bellhousing side. Extreme would be a one-stop shop.
