When I take the shifter out of gear, the shifter doesn't go back to neutral. The car is in neutral, as it's not in gear, but it doesn't automatically go to the center position.

For example... Let's say you are in neutral, and you move the shifter over to the left, but not up or down into 1st or 2nd gear. You let go, and the shifter pops back into the center. Mine doesn't do that. :|

I think there's a spring in there that is missing, or worn out. Not sure though.

probably should tell you the bell crank is the thing on the transmission the the cables attach to. those always seize up if the car sits for a long time. i used a hammer and lot of penetrating oil to get it loose then it centered fine

My friend disassembled this before, and told me there was a spring that causes the shifter to return back to the center. Is this true?
