Hey everyone, I have a question I am trying to answer as my car is off TRYING to get fixed.

long story short, jumped time, bent my valves so I found a head w/ valves in good cond. for $50, bought it, everything else I needed to get and am having a family friend do the work because I have yet to mess with anything like changing the head and would rather just get my car running asap.

I have a problem tho, the head I bought didnt have the cam caps, and I am being told that those arent interchangeable between heads? I understand they are numbered and supposed to go in a specific order, does anyone know if this is correct or not?

I'm in a bit of a problem just because I don't have a lot of money, I'm a broke college student and I think this problem is getting more and more costly LOL.

Anyone have any advice for me? Could the valves from the head I just bought be swapped into my current head?

The cam caps are specific to each and every head and ARE NOT interchangable. I ran into a similar problem when I bought a head missing just one cam cap which wasn't such a big deal. To run one in its place I had to pull one off of my head and get it line honed by a machine shop to ensure the clearance between it and the cam was in spec. If I remember correctly there are 12 cam caps, getting them all line honed off your old head would be costly since getting one done for my head build was roughly $35.

$35 x 12 = $420. Why don't you just use the valves/springs/retainers from the head missing the cam caps and put them in your head with them, just be sure to get it resurfaced and cleaned before re-installing it.

Exactly

You dont want to just throw on random cam caps...

You'll need to have the head line honed which can be costly $$, while your at it have them check the surface.. dont wanna just throw on a head because someone said it was good
