cam bolt missing! /vent thread

Oh wow, that bolt was overtorqued. What would that say about the rest of the bolts?!... So, did you find where the other missing piece of the bolt went to?

remove the cam cap, is there any bolt above the aluminum of the base part of the head?

just drill a hole in the middle of the broken bolt, and get an easy out and just get a new bolt no problem at all. The only problem then is where did the head of the bolt go?

check with your local tool store, they make a reverse direction drill bit, center punch the broken piece, once the bit grabs the bolt it should back right out. If you break off an easy out in that hole, you my friend have just f ed yourself.

an easy out is a reverse grabbing bit that is very thin, made out of VERY VERY VERY hard metal, that doesn't drill. You have to drill a hole first, then use the easy out.

Delta was recommending a reverse drill bit (just a regular drill bit that bites in reverse) to remove the broken bolt. If you are lucky this will work, but sometimes you just cant get around using an easy out. The benefit of the drill bit is that it is a bit more robust, and less prone to breaking because it isn't 'biting' the metal as hard as an easy-out.

Moral of the story: dont break an easy off in a bolt, because that metal is just too damn hard to drill into.
