I dont know what to do with my auto tensioner....I just replaced my T Belt and all the pullies but left the auto tensioner. Im not sure if t ever been replaced by the previous owner so im a little skeptical. But I just finished the install yesterday and all the marks lined up nice and seems like i still have really nice tension. Whats the best way to test for the correct tension?

You did all that work without replacing one of the most important things besides the t-belt? Ouch! The tensioner is something that should be replaced with every t-belt/b-belt job. You can get away with doing the pulleys every other time (every 120k), although I don't.
I would take that sucker apart and get a new tensioner on it.
Did you put a new water pump in?

Jim

yeah, new water pump and front case...You think its still a must even though it has good tension?

It has good tension today, but who's to say it will last another 60k? You already said you don't know what the previous owner did. It might make it, might not.
If it does loose tension it might destroy the valves/head and maybe pistons.
It could loose tension gradually and you get lucky and notice it before any real damage occurs.
Or you can just "suck it up" now and do it right in a couple hours and a few dollars compared to the expense after it took a dump.
I would say 50/50 chance. I would not like those odds for something this critical on my car.

Just orderd my auto tensioner from SBR about 2 minutes ago...I thought about it and its not worth the chance or stress. I put way to much money into my rebuild so why cheap out on one of the most important components. Thanx for your opinions.

If you ever have doubts about an auto tensioner, replace it. It can by itself cause the belt to jump teeth as it can't hold the slack out if it's worn out.

Good Job Guys.
