hey guys, so i looked through all the other 6 bolt vs. 7bolt forums but i didnt really find what i was looking for.

i have a manual 98 GSX with a motor that wont start so im just parting it out and going to try and do the 6 bolt swap.
what are all the interchangeable parts between the 7 bolt motor and the 6 bolt motor.
i am looking at this motor who the guy is selling me his rebuilt 6 bolt motor with 15,XXX miles for $800 it is still in his 92 tsi awd and he still drives it. this would be all i get if i do get his motor

Block
Head
Intake manifold
Fuel rail
Oil pump
Water pump
Water pipe
Thermostat housing
Crank pulley +belts
Oil pan
Starter
CAS(cam angle sensor)
Applicable sensors
Throttle body
Stock 1G turbo manifold
Stock 14b turbo
Accel plug wires
Black chrome valve cover

and its compression across the board is 125 125 135 135

these are his exact words
""""About 15,000. After talking to my dad last night we both agreed the low compression numbers were from improperly seated rings. On initial start-up and engine break-in the engine was not ran long enough to fully seat the rings, thus they cooled down without fully expanding to create a good seal against the cylinder walls. He reminded me that we did a cylinder leak down test and found 10% leakdown in the crankcase, which indicates rings however 10% is not horrible.

If your looking to run high boost on this motor, this is an easy fix. Being the fact that it doesn't have ARP headstuds or an aftermarket headgasket, you can just pull off the head, throw the studs in and pop the pistons out for new rings. At 15k miles the cylinder wall cross-hatching/honing should still be immaculate."""""

is that something i should avoid or is it really an easy fix?
also are the transmissions interchangeable??
alternators?
belts?
anything else?

thank you for taking the time to read all of this, any help is greatly appreciated
if theres more information you need let me know and i will do my best to provide it.

So it sounds like you want to know what is needed to do a 6 bolt swap into your 2g. If so, check out this document.

As far as all the parts that are interchangeable, there are a lot. If you have any specific questions, let us know.

For the engine, I'm not sure if I would go for that. I guess it all depends on what the internals are (stock, aftermarket), what your intentions and goals are, and how much knowledge you have.

thanks for your reply, i would specifically like to know if the transmission of a 7bolt motor will fit on the 6bolt motor, and the alternator, which belts, or anything else that i should keep on my 7 bolt before parting it out.

Yes, the transmission will work, otherwise how would people perform 6 bolt swaps in their 2g's?

The alternator will work as well. I probably would not keep the belts either way. It'd be better to get new ones as the old ones have probably stretched or might have started fraying.

I could probably come up with a list of a lot of parts that you could keep, but it's more or less what do you need or want. Unless you want to keep spares of everything...

thanks for the reply, well i want to spend the least amount of money so whatever i can use off of the 7bolt i will keep and use for the swap, and whatever is left i will most likely part it out. a list would be very helpful , thanks again!
