ok so i bought a new block for my 2g and it is a 1g 7 bolt engine and i want thicker rods and a stronger block.have a guy that has a 6 bolt engine and big rods that i can trade for. my question is what can i take off the 1 7 bolt engine to use on the 6 bolt block. the 1g block had bad pistons WTF and not shure about the rods:hmm:.can i use all the crank pully parts and 1g head and the 1g head studs and 1g water pump and 1g oil pump and t belt tensioner.

You should, shouldn't you? Aren't the blocks identical outside?Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think they are. Just the innards are different, that's about it, right?

none of the above threads helped with questions.
1 will the 1g 7 bolt head need to be drilled out for the studs.
2 will my 1g 7 bolt oil pan fit a 6 bolt block.
3 will 1g 7 bolt timing pullys and bearings and tensioner fit on 6 bolt block.
4 will the 1g 7 bolt oil filter housing fit 6 bolt block.
5 will the 1g 7 bolt rear main seal housing fit 6 bolt.

please need these questions answered asap.

1. Yes, as the 1g 7 bolt uses 11mm studs and the 6 bolt block uses 12mm studs (easily found by searching).
2. No, the oil pans are different.
3. The tensioner, tensioner arm, tensioner pulley, or BS tensioner pulley won't. The idler pulley will.
4. No.
5. No. The 6 bolt has a few other parts (oil separator and gasket) so keep that in mind.

Specific questions are much easier than "What parts are interchangeable" ;)

I would just rebuild the 6 bolt block and swap that into my 2g.

6 Bolt Motor Install Into a 2G Eclipse

Read through the above website and it will give you a good idea of what it will take to put a 1g motor into your car.

Can you rebuild or get a 2g 7 bolt longblock? It would be less painful and easier to just get a 2g motor into your car if you need it running within a reasonable amount of time. If you are doing this as a project then i would take the time and do a 6 bolt swap.

ok than i guess i am going to use the 1g 7 bolt engine than.what can i do rod wise i have the 7 bolt rods they are supper thin and need thicker rods. need to make this 1g 7 bolt engine hold 350 to 400 with out breaking things.

My buddy is running a stock 6 bolt block with 100k miles on his 2g. He has well over 20k invested into his car. He is pushing close to 400 hp @ 23-25psi on a FP3052 with a fully built head. With your current mod list i am 99% sure you would be fine with a stock 6 bolt unless you have the money to build a motor. If you just start bolting random rods / pistons together without doing the research first, you will be doing the same work 3-4 times. Believe me, it pays to do it right the first time. Do not just throw something together just so the car is running again. Since the car is down, spend the time to build a reliable motor that will run for years to come. If you just throw stuff together, i guarantee it will not last more than 3 months

when it comes to the rods, I the swap commonly done is the 1g rods with the 2g pistons in a sbolt block

if need be get some eagle H beam "clones" knock offs what ever you want to call them, off ebay
just compare the specs to that of eagle look for the 4340 crome molly ones

the problem is i have a 1g 7 bolt crank and block. can get a bare block and a set of rods from a guy.will cost more to build a 6 bolt then to do something with the 1g 7 bolt engine.

It will cost nearly the same to swap any 1g motor into your 2g. Again please dont just throw parts together to make something work. Have you checked craigslist in your area for a used motor assembly for 4-500 dollars? Sell the 1g 7 bolt stuff and build the 6 bolt, you will not regret it.

i did buy a cheap block this is what i am going to rebuild with new pumps gasket bearings and odds and ends. i took the complete motor i got apart and found broken rings and chiped pistons. i found the rods stated above they look good for me and are over kill for what i need but thats what i want. the problem with those rods are dont know what to do for pistons they dont say wet float or press fit pins.
