6 bolt / 7 bolt

ok i have a 95 talon tsi i keep hearing about 6 bolt and 7bolt motors. How do you tell what motor you have. I no i just did tranny and i had 7 bolts in the flywheel so is mine 7 bolt and whats the differents between the 2 motors and witch motor is better.

i also see something about 4g something something some motor # how do i tell what mine is i no my motor is a DSM sticker says that on firewall but thats all i can read on it

seven bolts on flywheel means it's a seven bolt. Most people will say the 6 bolt is better but people have high hp numbers with both. The 6 bolts are a little more resistant to crankwalk.

6 bolt came in the 90 to 92 and a half then they switch to the weaker 7 bolt the weaker 7 bolt is why you hear of people doing a 6 bolt swap and the 4g or 4g63 is the block code

The block code can be found stamped on the side of the block can't remember of hand which side but there is a platue on the block that it is stamped on your car being a stock block turbo dsm of that year will diffinatly have a 7bolt 4g63t

what is crank walk and could i put more power to this motor with out problems

Crankwalk is when the thrust bearing becomes worn and the crank can move from side to side usually noticed as clutch engagment or disengagment issues and the stock 7 bolt rods as a general rule people say they will handle some where around 400hp
