i recently bought a 1999 GSX with 300-350 hp already.. within 24 hours of buying this car my clutch went out I am now being told I need to replace the one that was in the car.. I was told it was a stage 3 clutch but after my mechanic got into the car said it was NOT a stage 3 and that I needed to buy a new clutch.. so I did some research and I came up with EITHER a SPEC STAGE 2 Clutch or a Centerforce Dual Friction Clutch Kit
i
was wondering which is the better choice.. its my daily driver and im a weekend warrior.. i am buying an aluminum fly wheel and an OEM throw out bearing.. even have a new clutch fork as well. just looking for some feed back thank you..

I had a question actually! What happened to your clutch that made it go out? Was it slipping gears? I actually have a 1998 GSX as well but the only gear that was slipping was 1st gear. going from a stop to a go it wouldn't go into 1st and you can tell that all it is doing is grinding it.

I've personally had great luck with a comp clutch stage 2 and 3, they don't like launching but they are great long lasting clutches for a really good price, a stage 3 is over kill for your car, but I would probably still get one so when the power bug bites you, you don't have to do it twice. Just read up on them and their torque ratings. If I had to do it again I would have gone twin disk, but my single disk comp clutches were great!

minimarine09, have you ever had your clutch slip out of first gear when going from a stop to go? it doesn't stay and I wanted to know if I need to replace the throw out bearing or if it needed adjustments. Any suggestions from anyone?[DOUBLEPOST=1413122812][/DOUBLEPOST]And Twizted, I'd probably go with the Stage 2. That's the clutch that will eventually be going into my GSX. That is what was recommended for me but I would read up on it more.

So first try adjusting the clutch pedal and see if that works. If not, then should I get the throw out bearing replaced as well as the clutch and try that? or go straight to fixing the transmission?

I would adjust your clutch pedal properly. Then check your shifter cable bushings. I mean it could be possible that one is worn enough to keep it from engaging 1st all the way, but If that were the case I would guess that you would see issues with 3rd and 5th grade as well. My money is on something in your transmission like your syncros, fork, or something with the gears themselves. I'm no transmission expert at all but it does sound like a transmission issue.

Plus if you were going to change the throw out bearing, you would have to remove the transmission anyways, so might as well rip it open and take a look

What do you mean clutch slip out of first gear? You are mixing terms. Either a clutch slips or it doesn't. A transmission stays in gear or it doesn't (pops out) . What are you trying to describe?
I am not a fan of aluminum flywheels. Any particular reason you want one? You do understand they affect driveability.

I agree if your having troubles with 1st gear only it points to an internal transmission issue

It pops out of 1st. That's the only gear. All the other gears stay when you shift. The only time it doesn't stay is when i go from a stop to a go in 1st.

Yea sounds like your transmission. And to the op, using a light weight flywheel isn't the most fun thing to drive as a daily. It takes more clutch work to start going, I had a lightweight one in my evo and it took a while to get used to. But I didn't mind.

That isn't a clutch issue. That's a transmission issue.[DOUBLEPOST=1413128584][/DOUBLEPOST]I just realized that isn't the OP. Secondary posters please make your own thread.
I couldn't make a thread yet. That is why I posted on here as well.[DOUBLEPOST=1413129007][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thank you for the input!

ok I was told that a aluminum flywheel is better for shifting over a steel cause its lighter and doesn't have so much drag when engaging.. said a lightweight flywheel would be better... so I was choosing the aluminum one.. so the TWIN DISK would be a better option? again I just want it to look n sound nice it has the horse power I just need its legs back.. im not trying to launch a lot I run against some friends and just like to be able to get n go when need be. im not adding anymore horsepower to it I like where its at so I know a stage 3 isn't what I want cause its to much ON OFF... I want as smooth of engaging as I can no neck snapping..
these are the 2 I was choosing from.. hit me with some feedback on thoughts? thank you..
