Hi everybody,

I recently bought the treadstone turbo kit for my 420a, the kit is beautiful but my question is about the turbo I recieved with the kit, I am very new to all the turbo sizes and everything but I have read and searched the forums like crazy and studied up, pardon me if I get some things wrong.

The kit originaly comes with a Turbonetics t3/t4 V-trim, but you have the option of a free upgrade to a Turbonetics t3/t4 .63 a/r 50 trim, so I went for the upgrade cool its free right? Well when I got the kit they actualy sent me a Turbonetics t3/t4 .63 a/r 60-1 trim.

I looked and searched and searched but I did not find anything on the turbo I have in specific, I know there are more to turbos than just trim size, I need to know if this thing is way overkill for me, im building a motor on the side but as of right now this turbo will be on factory pistons. From all the posts I read a 60-1 turbo is nothing till like 25psi? and keep in mind ill be starving this sucker at 8psi till I get the other motor done.

Details on what I got:

Turbonetics t3/t4
60-1 Trim T04E Compressor Wheel
Stage 3 Turbine Wheel
.63 a/r
57 lbs/min

Any guidance would be GREATLY appreciated, if this turbo is not good to use right now, I need to send it back and swap it out for the 50 trim before its to late. Thanks in advance to anyone that can help me out.

Yes, I gave them a call yesterday the day I got the kit in the mail, the guy I talked to didnt really give me a very good explaination of why I got the 60-1, so I dont know if it was just an accident or what.

I'm sure they would be more than ok to swap it out for the 50 trim if I need to, but I wanted to make sure with all you experts before I went through the trouble of sending it back and waiting on the turnaround, I want to make sure im ok to run this size turbo on my current motor at 8psi, from what I understand running a 60-1 so far under its specified boost range it may hardly spool up at all right? and if thats the case I just want to send it back.

If this is on a stock internal 420a then I would say ship it back. That turbo is going to be super laggy as it is and 8psi is not going to yield very good results. Granted the 50 trim is also going to be well out of its efficiency range at 8psi but hopefully you will be building your bottom end soon. Also make sure you have all of the supporting mods for either turbo or they will both be useless.

When it comes to turbos I generally look at them like this for a rough idea of power output:
50 trim can flow around 50 pounds a minute or 500hp
60 trim can flow around 60 pounds a minute or 600hp, and so on...

Edit: Wow clearly I read through your first post to fast LOL. Since you are building another engine on the side your final power goals should determine which turbo to go with. If you really want a 500+FWHP car that won't have any traction on the street then keep the turbo you have. If you want a little less then swap it for something smaller.

Thats exactly what I was wanting to find out, I do have a motor on the side that I am dumping a ton of money into but its a project that im not gonna complete over night, I wanted to know if I should keep this turbo or not because I wanted to have a little fun outa my car as it sits, buying a bigger turbo later when the motor is done wont be a problem, its a factory rebuild but i threw in a few things to help it hold up to the turbo, it will be good to go lightly boosted.

The exleme lag is the part im worried about, I meen at what rpm do you think it will spool at? even on the built motor I dont want it to be at full spool at like 7k yeh kno? Would the 50 trim really be that much more efficient around 8-10psi? or are they both going to be about that same?

Oh yea believe me I know its overkill right now at only a mere 8psi, I just would like to know if I use this turbo for the time being untill my other motor is complete, will this turbo be so under boosted that I would hardly even get it to spool? and would I have to redline just to even have it pull? That is my main concern, if thats the case then I will go through the trouble of sending it back and getting the smaller 50 trim.

This is my first turbo period, so I have no experience with any size turbo to compair this turbo with.

Thanks again in advance for anyones help.

Hey everybody,

I know its been a few days since my last post, but I figured I would post back and mark the thread as solved, the turbo that treadstone sent me actualy was a 62-1 trim turbo, I just recently finished everything up and the spool is not bad at all, around 3k and pulls all the way to redline, I love it, boost is a drug :D

Thanks for all your help, and expecialy yours VelocitàPaola, your post made me decide to go ahead and not send the turbo back, thanks!!

When it comes to turbos I generally look at them like this for a rough idea of power output:
50 trim can flow around 48 pounds a minute or 400hp on pump gas
60 trim can flow around 50-52 pounds a minute or 450hp on pump gas, and so on..
Fixed.

Total horsepower output varies depending on boost level, tune, timing, compression, and displacement.
