Sorry for the repost. I cant create a new thread in the N/T section.

i have a 1g eclipse gs (4g63 dohc 2.0) i want to increase hp and make my car faster. GOING TURBO IS NOT AN OPTION(not even thinking about it). im not gonna race the car. i just want it to be faster than stock. i was thinking of doing the following:

NGK Iridium Plugs
264/264 cams
K&N High Flow Filters/custom 3" ss/aluminum piping
4-2-1 or 4-1 header custom mandrel bent(which is better? 421 or 41?)
2.25' or 2.5" manifold back exhaust
high flow catalytic converter
Delete Resonator

did i miss anything? any suggestions?

again its a daily driver, i just want it to be faster than stock. Thanks in Advance.
 
you forgot 1.8 head. more compression. the tri y design of a 4-2-1 will be better
 
1.6 head will also fit and raise comp.

I found that tuning the spark plug gap made more of a difference than electrode material. Didn't have a dyno, but found .05-.1" larger gap added to throttle response and low end without sacrificing top end. Spark seemed to break up past that point. Couldn't tell you what will work for your car, but going by .02 increments is good. I also fond that the exotic material plugs like to foul.

If you are messing with plug material/gap make sure to use dielectric grease on the plug threads and seat, and turn the plug counter clockwise until it drops into the thread. Changing the gap 4 times gives you 16 opportunities to cross thread a plug.

Light weight pulleys and flywheel is a very good idea.

4-2-1 seems to tune lower end and 4-1 gives benefits in the top end. Looks like longer tube 4-2-1 can give the benefits of both

A larger mass air sensor, well designed intake tube, and large filter with velocity stack is about as good as you can hope for.

The 370cc injectors and a stock turbo dsm fuel pump should be next to free and all you need for a N/A setup.

The money spent will probably not be really worth the power gains you will. before I turboed my first 420a it just had exhaust Freddy headers and intake, honestly it felt no faster then stock. the exhaust was like $250 the greddy header was like $200 and the intake was like $50. maybe gain like 10hp, but the money spent to power ratio was nt worth it. Even tho if you run te n/a 4g63 I don't see much more power over the 420a i had. Don't get me wrong it will sound nice and be decent but it comes up wether you want to do it or not.
 
I had a na at first in 94 it had some nice mods kinda fun, until i went turbo had a few mods, i liked it, lots of opions here and ideas hope you find out what makes you happy.
 
thanks guys. basically all i need to do are the following: (correct me if im wrong)

hi flow filter w/ mandrel bent piping or CAI, 4-2-1 header mandrel bent, 2.5" exhaust, 264 cams, lightweight under drive pulley,

what do you guys mean by delete balance shaft, underdrive pulley?

for cat, do i have to delete it or just get a high flow cat?

another question, if im gonna use stock gst injectors and fuel pump, do i have to change my computer box to make them work?

I owe an official apology for turning this thread into a all out assault so I'd like to say sorry. I never said plugs make more power just that better plugs will be a good buy when making more power to reduce the chances of pre detonation witch in turn helps you maintain the power you can make. coil top of plug mounts will give you more spark with msd dis-2 multispark ignition box, a welbro 255 fuel pump will give you fuel needed to make more power but only when your pulling in more air naturally. so bigger injectors and more air flow in and out. Cold air intake w/ k&n airfilter, hacking the MAF, and bypassing coolant line going to T.B. are all thing to improve intake & efficiency along with porting & polishing intake and T.B. also if you go with bigger cams you may as well pull head and have it resurfaced, ported & polished too. Once you have mega flow going in you will need more flow going out so Mandrel bent exhaust manifolds are great along with hi flow cat and full cat back exhaust, i hear that 2.5 is about the max you need for making power n/a any bigger and you loose power? (not sure on that) all those mods together will make good power especailly when tuned by having a eprom chip installed on your ECU and getting it tuned via things like dsmlink etc. Putting a dual core aluminum radiator w/ 185 degree thermostate will keep engine running cooler. Reducing rotational weight (Centrifugal Force) will increase throttle response and help put more power to the wheels so adding lightweight flywheel and installing better clutch helps, taking out weight and power drags like ac pump and power steering free up some power also. Running synthetics will reduce engine friction all around and that too frees up horse power. there is much more to go but if you want bang for the buck start with intake and exhaust, these cars are naturally aspirated so start with making it aspirate!
 
again i dont wanna go turbo at the moment. just wanna run faster than stock. maybe ill be gettin a turbo next year. thanks
 
Save your money for a boosted setup. You're going to spend a bunch of money to make what, 25hp? Silly when you're working with one of the greatest AWD turbo platforms in history.
 
i might consider getting a turbo maybe next year. what about the amg tuned 4g63? would that hook up in my 1g? my uncle's car has one, and he is willing to trade it for free. im from the philippines anyways. few dsms here. more on galants, evo's, gtr's, silva's and 2g eclipse.
 
Making any NT motor breathe better is alway a move forward for more performance, but the tradeoff is lesser fuel economy since you have to keep the proper A/F ratio at norm.

Thing also is the 4G63 is almost a "square" motor - bore at 85mm and stroke at 88mm which gives out good high end RPM's and torque to match.

Do a 2.3L NT stoker "undersquare" motor, (100mm stroke at 85mm bore) and you will gain some bottom end torque for the same HP, just less top end RPM.
