Mystery oil appearing in the valve cover

Somehow oil ends up on top of my valve cover, the rest of the engine bay (as far as I can see) isn't getting any on it. Where could this be coming from and how can i fix it?

^^agree. My stock cap use to leak. Switched to an HKS oil cap, no more leak.

It also could be a spark plug gasket. I had that happen to me on a previous car. Oil fills up the sparkplug well and collects on top of the valve cover.

Very true, but I think the OP would also be complaining about a severe misfire due to arcing if that was the case.

Thank you, It's porobaby the oil cap, the valve cover and sprk plug gaskets are fine, i checked those first as that's what it was on my 1st gen I had. I'll give it a go this weekend and see if that fixes it.

If it is the valve cover were is a good place to pick one up? (besides a scrap yard)

do you have you valve cover breathers capped with just a filter.. sometime it will spit oil all over the engine bay if youve done this filter "mod"!

Id check the oil cap for starters. Make sure to get one from a Napa at the least, if not dealer, not autozone. I had an autozone one start leaking so bad all of a sudden it started a fire on my exhaust manifold heat shield.

My car would not start at all when this happened in 1 of the wells.

Ya sounds like the spark plug gasket..I had this happen on my old valve cover, swapped covers and new gaskets, and it never happened again..

His car probably wouldnt be running right, or at all if the spark plug gasket was leaking, instead of just a mystery oil leak.

Mine ran just fine..At least that I can remember it ran just fine..Maybe I just don't remember, but I could have sworn it ran just fine..

It was the cap, got one from NAPA. now my valve cover stayes nice and clean. Thanks for the ideas guys.
