My Other Baby's

My numbers matching, all original Rally Sport 1967 Camaro. I found her with 3 flat tires, covered in tree sap and no tag. 8 months of restoration everyday after work to make her SHINE, and thanks to my best buddy, Todd, for the help on the project!

Well I dropped off one head that had a set of bent valves in it to a old machine shop that I hadn't been to in quite a while but we hit it off and he was impressed that I knew my shit, down to the casting # last 3 digits (492, Corvette heads, pretty rare). Even tho the older guy had lots to do, he pushed my job thru and I paid in CASH (as always) and said Go have a nice supper!
He even learned something from me. The valves I am running are very nice and he hadn't heard of them, Qual Cast, made in the good ole USA! I need to see if they make our DSM valves because they are SS swirl polished and undercut for flow like our HP valves are.
I'll be back to his shop as I found out can bore and turn cranks and surface.
Sooo Happy!
He didn't charge much to do 2 valves.
The last picture doesn't show how bent those 2 where but much like a 4g63 except a lot bigger stems and heads (2.02" OD).

Well, I fkd up the back cam bearing with my nice new install tool (but I had a spare set of course)so the short block is about ready for final assembly on this 350 SBC.
Oh yeah, there is that broken cam gear I talked about. Lol.
Just updates. She's about ready!

Ring gap check time. I will adjust a few but they really wouldn't need it. I just try to even things out and make my 2nd gaps a few thousand larger than the first. It might see a small shot if NOS, IDK.
Maybe shortblock assembly this weekend! I've been a little under the weather this week though.
Here are just a few pics

Went out in 80* weather and did what I could for today. I'm not rushing it so a little bit each day and it will be finished. That could be as soon as tomorrow.....but the Chiefs play so probably not. We'll see what the morning brings :thumb:
Those are Corvette "492" heads with Comp Cams dual springs/retainers/keepers with pushrod guide plates running Qual Cast SS swirl polished 2.02" intake and 1.60" exhaust valves.
Thanks for tagging along even though it's not a DSM!

Thanks for hanging around with me!
It's all manual work, measurements and torque values. Not rocket science.

They really are simple but so are 4g63s. Hell they all are. Glad you have some Chevy in ya Pat ;)

Build sheets as always. Document it!
Waiting on the cam to be ground.
XE288HR from Comp Cams. Works perfect with the valve train. I had to buy a $100 distributor gear for it too. Whoo. Always make sure the components work in the same area for your best outcome.
The cam is supposed to be shipped 12/18 (I hope its earlier). EDIT - IT ARRIVED 5/8/2023
I like marking my Balancers. It's a visual thing!!!

Well just an update since I haven't posted about the roller motor 350. I am STILL waiting on Comp Cams to grind the cam I ordered for it. It is not a normal grind of theirs so they pushed the delivery date back from Dec 18th to Jan 12 or so. I contacted Summit who contacted them and they confirm that it should be here in a couple weeks (yeah, lets not hold our breath on that one tho). It has given my customer more time to get his torque converter and other things so I guess it isn't all bad. Hopefully in the next post, I will have the cam in and the intake, carb, stud girdle and the pretty stuff all on!
Thanks for following and sorry about the slow updates, but really, nothing has been going on. Hoping that changes real soon. The LT1 is about to go to the shop for my son to install into his 3rd gen 5 speed car and the 2 DSM engines and transmissions in my garage are also moving to the shop, in prep for install also. This "might" give me back my pool table, which has been covered with plywood for 2-3 years and has DSM parts on it. All of that changing this weekend, I HOPE......:thumb:
Marty

:):):) hours of hard work but worth it. All motors/transmissions/heads/transfer cases moved to the shop and look what appeared!
Yay!
Still plenty of stuff to move though.

Testing the recently discovered Pool Table that has been hidden under all the DSM parts for around 5 years! :thumb::)
It still works! ROFLhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yBlA-vlspz8

New baby in the shop.
2006 LS 5.3L
60000 miles
Aluminum Heads
Truck Intake with DBW throttle body
Low oil pressure syndrome
$200
My son is going to tear it down for rebuild and possible transplantation and thoughts of a ProCharger. Just preliminary shop chatter. :argue:

Well we took advantage of 60* weather today and moved the LT1 to the assembly cart and put the LS onto the stand for further investigation of its issue. A full rebuild IS in store for the LS.
In an entirely different issue, I ordered the roller cam for the 350 roller motor on Nov 3rdish and now Summit is showing a MAY delivery date and they called Comp Cams on the issue. Comp claims that they dont have any cores for the cam. Idk if it is coincidence but the LAST cam I ordered I had Nitrided and it took 3 months only to see after my cam was ground and nitrided that now they offer it that way, ready to rock. Hmmmm. Something smells fishy here. I'm going to have to find a different cam manufacturer with a similar grind but my customer built EVERYTHING on his car around the cam profile. Makes me look bad, Summit look bad AND COMP CAMS LOOK VERY BAD.
Sorry, had to vent there.
Thanks for following our adventures!!!
That transmission picture is one of the very first TKO600RR Tremec 5 speeds for the oldest sons 3rd gen Camaro Z28 I built him. LOVE that transmission!:thumb::cool:
The last picture is my run in stand I got from a local machinist that went out of business.

Getting the old girl ready for Friday night cruise tomorrow. It's been a few months since she has been nice and clean.
The cars all gather uptown and park to enjoy each others creations or pride and Joy's then we all cruise the town.
It's fun and supposed to be a nice day with rain late. :)

The cruise night was a hit. Free live rock and roll music and plenty of cars, each one nice in it's own way. My car was sitting with a good group of Chevys and my best friends GTO Convertible. I place SECOND in the poker run, one card short of winning.
All in all, it was a super nice evening at 70* and good to see old friends and their rides!

The customer asked for a purple motor. I told him...uh.....NO.
Until today and I surprised him. I told him to just wait for the chrome, it should look "blingy".
I'll be installing the $400 cam in the next day or 2 since it is supposed to rain and then bolting on Chrome. Next we will put it on the run in stand and fire it up. Video for sure! :thumb::thumb:

New GM product on the farm. It came in as a body for my son's LS build. It has a 350, Torquer Intake, Holley 650, Slapper bars and bucket seats. 1976 so it's an Antique and IT RUNS! :thumb: It made it 4 miles home on 1 lugnut on the drivers rear OMG I wondered why that tire was wobbling as we drove home at 10mph. We didn't drive it home we towed it. Looks like it needs floorboards but not really a bad car for its age.

Check it out, it runs, for $600 :thumb::)

The PURPLE Roller motor 350 is getting some love. While cleaning parts, I found 2 roller rockers with cracks on the tips from the previous engine failure (bent valves on 1 cylinder) so I need to get 2 replacements or a full set. Stud girdle will be in tomorrow. Its close to being put on the run in stand. Maybe a week, I have a family funeral this week though.
Thanks for following all the shit we do, it seems like A LOT of different stuff!
