My Other Baby's

My numbers matching, all original Rally Sport 1967 Camaro. I found her with 3 flat tires, covered in tree sap and no tag. 8 months of restoration everyday after work to make her SHINE, and thanks to my best buddy, Todd, for the help on the project!

Well the motor is back in the Z28. The #3 rod bearing looked fine as a random check. New Oil Pump on and with less viscosity oil, holds more pressure than the M55HV did. It sounds fine but I'm not counting my chickens before they're hatched. We did a maiden run, a shakedown if you will, and all went well as you can see here - crossing fingers 🤞🤞🖕.

Well that didn't last long. The pump fixed it but now oil pressure plummets after 4000 rpm. I am taking it out and getting another ready. I suspect main bearings/thrust bearing excessive wear but am not sure why it drops after 4k. Roller cam this time I think. I acquired a 817 casting 400 SBC and crank that seem to be in remarkable condition. Parts are already on the way or here. I need a set of heads and a roller cam so that is a chunk of change I'll be working on.
Just some of the other stuff going on here at the shop.
Here is a "peek" of parts so far.....

Here is what the new block looked like when I got it. Quite a difference...and lot of elbow grease.

NO work on the DSM stuff today, in fact, it should be NO WORK AT ALL.
In any case, I cleaned out the oiling holes of the 400 crank today and got some crud out. Some folks would have looked at it and possibly installed it without a good cleaning with BPC and a .22 caliber gun cleaning kit.
Rinse and repeat, as always, until you know they are clean. A good visual is always good if you can see completely thru the oiling holes, and on a SBC, you can. One more cleaning before install of the bearings after a good hot soap and water bath of the BLOCK at the local car wash then a WD40 SOAKING.
I will clean the crank oiling holes with WD also.
I have a couple "tricks" i need to do on the block too, for faster oil return before the wash.
Bearings, rings and pistons should be in tomorrow or Tuesday, I think.
Pics of the day, to complete a WEEK of updates, here at Wilson Engine Shop...... back to my regular 9-5 tomorrow :(

Since it is supposed to be 105* heat index today, it will be a good day, after lunch, to take the pressure washer to the 400 small blocks block and crank, then blow dry and spray with a light coat of WD40 to prevent flash rusting of all the clean or machined areas. As always, thanks for following along what we do here. We're ALWAYS busy!
