My old highschool car

I regret getting rid of this car but have it back again!!!

No I have not yet. I do need to tho and maybe the gauge will start working. Also once I am in there I can look around the tank and see what it looks like inside.

Before I can see it I have to remove a floor we put over the rear hump to make the hatch flat for distribution block, amps & etc I had back in the day. Here is what I have in there now. I have had these for over 2 years and only have 1 in there with a small amp. In time I will get it all done but car & home maintenance come first LOL.

Those are the same pedal covers I had on my last/first DSM. Now I have non-slip ones because of the ACT 2100 clutch and ACT flywheel.

The gas pedal cover doesn't fit unless you drill holes - but the brake and clutch pedal covers improve the feel.
 
I cooked up some new timing numbers that should get rid of the little bits of knock you have in the low LoadFactor areas around 3000 rpm. The knock there might be something else, but this is one way to find out. Timing there was awful high, around 30 degrees, so it's fine to get rid of a little of that.
It's just the dark (bold) numbers in here that are new. This is MaxOct but make MinOct the same.
New numbers are from 2000 to 4000 rpm.

Here are 2 logs i made before putting those new numbers in just to see how everything is going right now as like a check up LOL.

The first log is pretty long as i was making sure its running good which it is. I got on it a at the 471 mark on the first log and then the 2 log was a pretty strong hard pull fairly quickly into the log as i had just left the gas station after meeting the wife & kiddos there.

On the 2nd log i had to lift and not go full throttle to keep the boost around 15. Thinking i need to do a vacuum leak test to figure out where the leak is because it use to hold its boost which now it isn't under full throttle

In the 2nd log, at 45.7 seconds where you are in 2nd gear, the airflow and LoadFactor are cutting back while you are still at 100% throttle.
But you would want things to cut back there because you had just gone over 100% injector duty cycle about half a second before that.
Also the airflow there was hitting 30 lbs/min which is an awful lot on stock injectors. Too much I think.
So whatever it is that cuts it back there while you are still on 100% throttle, is doing you a favor by cutting things down a little.

Then at 48.5 secs you are in 3rd gear so things are happening slower, and I guess that is where you say you had to lift to keep the boost below 15 psi? But the duty cycle was only 80% there, and there was no knock, and the timing is ok, nothing is too high, so it might have been ok for it to go a little over 15 psi, until duty cycle hits 100%, and that would have happened pretty quick. So yeah, it's probably just as well that you lifted a little there.

The problem with too much airflow is, because the fuel flow is limited by the stock injectors, your AFR is going to be too lean when the airflow goes this high.
So at the top of 2nd gear here, with the high airflow, you were probably quite a bit too lean.

Your narrow band O2 sensor seems to be working really well. So it wouldn't be a complete waste to look at what AFR you come up with from a Nernst Emulation table. This emulation varies with exhaust temperature and won't be very accurate usually but, whatever, for science!

AEM has Nernst emulation values in the P4 column in this table, which is in the documentation for their older wideband (before the X-series).
You can find your Front O2 voltage in the P4 column, and follow that row over to the left until you get to the AFR column and read the AFR.

Near the end of that 2nd gear pull, your Front O2 has trickled down to 0.75 volts.
Earlier in the pull it was very steady at 0.88 volts.

0.88 volts would be around 11.75 AFR (pretty good)
0.75 volts would be around 14.0 AFR (pretty scary)

But when you just figure the fuel flow in pounds per minute for the 4 injectors running at 100% -
that's 1800cc per minute and that weighs 2.9 pounds.
So 2.9 pounds/minute of fuel.
If you go with the airflow number being 30 pounds per minute,
Then you have an AFR of 30/2.9 = 10.3
AFR=10.3 that's just fine!
Wow looks like the nernst emulation is waaay off.
 
I've been practicing cutting off some 5/16" nitrile fuel hose nice and straight on the ends so it could be used as a spacer on a Walbro outlet pipe. Want the o-ring to sit level with the cap on the end, not tilted.
The stock original plastic spacer won't sit at all on the newer Walbro pumps.
Here's what I came up with (pics below).
I want to send this spacer to you and a few of these 4mm x 7mm x 15mm nitrile o-rings, so that you have this stuff to use when you need it. Don't send me any money. This stuff doesn't cost anything.

The piece of hose is 13-14 mm long. I put a small bevel at the bottom of it on one side so it will fit in there where there is hardly any room between the Walbro pipe and the electrical head on the top of the pump. I marked that side of it with a small silver dot (silver Sharpie) so you can keep track of where the bevel is as you push this down on the pipe.
There is a 1 to 2mm gap between the top of the o-ring and the cap. I think that is kind of needed so that if the nitrile swells a little, it's less likely to push the cap off.
If you look at how this stuff fits on a stock 1990 fuel pump with the stock spacer, the o-ring doesn't sit right up against the cap anyway. The o-ring doesn't seal there. It seals on its ID against the pipe and its OD against the bellmouth.
The hose is not exotic expensive stuff at all, it is just a little unusual in that it is nitrile on the outside as well as on the inside. Most fuel hoses are nitrile only on the inside and their outer layer is something else, like PVC or CPE.

We were lit up this morning. Part of fence broke, lost a fire pit, lost a pool ladder, The trampoline broke top of picket and wrapped around a tree. Its twisted and done.

Took tree and the wife helped drag and put it in garage because we have other storms today.

Here is a better pic the wife took

Oh man. I see there is a tornado watch there even now. I guess the flooding wasn't enough, you had to have wind too. 🙃
 
We had an evangelist come through our church one night and talk about tornados going through his town in Mississippi. He said when a storm rolls in you just go out to the porch and watch the storm. When the tornado comes in you just go to your friends house and sit on the porch and watch the storm 🤣
 
We had a good night watching the storms roll in.
Yeah, that's pretty.
In Wisconsin where I lived for ~30 years, the storm fronts were very distinct so you could watch them roll in like that. Sometimes I would ride out to meet it on my 125cc single cylinder Honda, then turn around and race it back to the house. Lots of fun.

We used to do the same thing for hurricanes here in Florida. Some of us natives still do.

Aw well that's cool though. It was fun trying to be helpful and even succeeding now and then. You did a good job with the car.
So you will be maintaining an 'older' German car now, which I am doing too. I just got my year 2000 BMW back from "Strictly BMW" in Bellevue WA where it was for some work that I didn't want to do myself, and I hope it will be good to 180,000 miles or so. But we will see 🤣
YouTube videos have been really helpful for both my BMW and my 1994 Jeep (which I am working on today). The common problems that come up usually get a bunch of videos.
 
I've also got a w204 Benz, a 2008 c350 amg sport edition. best advice is to keep up on the transmission fluid changes, and make sure your intake manifold is in good shape, they have some plastic parts that get brittle with heat and break. also the oil filter housing and oil cooler gaskets like to leak as they age. the power steering reservoir also has a built in filter, so it's best to change that out if the miles are high.

Thank you for letting me know. I will keep an eye on the filter housing and oil cooler. The good thing about that is last year it got a brand new intake manifold. $1,000 just for the part. It also got tranny filter kit and refill, new upper & lower control arms, new spark plugs. He showed me all the receipts and he spend over 3k on it all.So I hope it keeps being a good car as it has been so far. Has ac and everything which is nice. Its alot nicer of car.

Gary thank you on saying I did good on the car. There was alot it came I feel like. The guy I traded has already put the fmic and new bov, wastegate & running 26lbs. Telling me how it throws your ass back in the seat LOL. Kinda jealous but I have a way better daily now. So. it was fun and memories were made LOL. And money was spend with both dsms haha

Oh that sounds familiar. Good though. Good that the PO had that stuff done. He was probably a relatively good car owner, not just running the car into the ground.
