Today i did the brakes. a bi*** getting the T rotors off but after that ordeal all went well (mostly anyway)

Here's a shot of the left GST rotor with the X caliper already bolted up and in place.. My Gst had banjo bolt caipers which in all my readings i was seeing NOT to get banjo style gsx ones cause they wouldn't bolt up.

Being that i have the entire donor car i just pulled the banjo lines from the X to use (got some GSt calipers for sale with lines if anyone wants em)
i literally used the torch first, then resorted to plasma cutting around the inner "hat" part of the rotors to take tension off them to allow the 3lb slege hammer to finish knocking them off the hub

here'sa couple shots of the brakes installed with gs-t wheels. thought it would be a tighter fit but guess not :D

This is only the begining that i wanted to do right away as i HATED my T brakes, they sucked for anything over 40mph stops LOL

As i left the house to test the brakes they felt good in reverse, then as i went to leave the houseboom, skerch, grind!! uh-oh, got out and the right side front lower ball joint popped apart (first time for that for me)

Got it fixed in the street with a neighbor holding a light and hand tools (i was lucky to have ONE left control arm, (left and right must be the same :D )

My FWD right CV exploede apart at the trans cup so now instead of buying one to run only to replace it with AWD soon i'm gonna get AWD ones and work on getting the trans in this week along with tearing the tank and rear out of the donor car tomorrow and if i have time i'll work on putting the new bolts and such in the GS-T body

i know it's not much but i'll do my best to document my build (athough many have done it before me i get bored easily :D )`

The axle is easy to re assemble if the roller bearings didn't fall apart. If they did than you can just take the inner hub and rollers from another axle and install on the end. It is real easy, just remove the c clip, and pull the old hub off the end, install the good one, install the clip, and put the axle cup on it with some fresh axle grease and a good boot.

WEll, tonight i drove about 3 hours each way to pick up a COMPLETE 95GSX driveline, got everything i needed in trade for a 1/5th scale RC car, my spare turbo and spare tial 38mm gate

eveerything is in pristine condition and there's a few bonus kickers to boot.

1.) I got a free 3" SS AWD turbo back exhaust

2.) the rear end pumpkin is LSD (pics below)

3.) it has the some what rare vented rear rotors (do i need special calipers for these as i didn't get them with it and it IS and ABS car theey were pulled from)

here's some eye candy
here's the exhaust and other crap

im so jealous! :(.. i want an awd tranny! and all the awd parts already! haha.. looks good though :thumb:. keep up the good work!

The rear end came off an early 95 gsx produced between 01/94 and 10/94. These came with factory slotted rotors. The rotor is bigger then other rear 2g gsx rotors so you will need to use early model calipers and brake pads as well (the rotor wont line up with the brake pad and the caliper will not be wide enough). if you already have 95+ brake pads and calipers you can just pick up some 95+ rotors and it will work fine

p.s. swap looks like its off to a good start

Well today i started the actual "work" one thing that everyone who's covered this process has left out is how there's something in the way of everything you need to work at or remove and it takes longer to remove the stuff in the way than to cut the bolt holes, or anything.

Got the subframe and tank out of donor car (not done yet, gotta helper today too :D )

Got the non LSD rear diff out and since the LSD/ABS axles were so frozen into their hubs i had to junk them i split the LSD drive cups and put them on the non lsd outter units and thye work perfect
here's pics of the 2 battered LSD/ABS ciorners and the process of putting the LSD diff and inner cups intop the donor car's rear end for the swwap.

oN a side note: herte's a littl;e somethiong that popped into my head when setting up to use the uber thin rear calipers since my dumb ass left the early 95 calipers behind not knowing they didn't all interchange LOL

These are 4 pot tokiko CBR1000RR radial mount brakes. they are a little tight on the rotor but by removing 2mm from rotor thickness and making some mounts they would at least look very good

what do you guys think about them?

Can bike calipers provide the necessary torque and could they take the heat? Your GS-T(X) will be slightly heavier than your average liter bike. Is it worth experimenting with over $60 in rotors?

Because the automatic trans can take a pissload of punishment, its run low 10s with a turbo basically the same size as a 16g, and you don't have to run a stiff ass clutch to make power.

Some of us are getting old. I am 26 and I have been playing football and jumping out of airplanes my whole life. (Air planes for like the past 8 years) So my knees, especially my left one hurt, all the time, on bad days I can't drive something like a 2600 act, or XTD stage 4 because the pain of holding in the clutch is just unbearable. I am sure there are older guys or people with worse injuries/repetitive stress than me too.

If you weren't so far away I would trade you my Shep stage 2 and matching t-case for your automatic parts.

hey turboglenn, I didnt know you were a mason=) That is really cool!!

Yea, I love to represent the Square and Compass or other little "things" that brothers identify. Having it on your car is cool because you meet all sorts of other masons when you travel and such,. I was raised about 8-9 years ago now and although i was very active for the first 5, holding seats as an officers and many more things, the last 2-3 years the pain has kept me mainly just a "dues payer" which i really feel bad about my lack of participation but they all know about my injuries and understand

Wow youre making massive progress.. ive decided i need to finish my awd swap before you since mine started back in march and is long overdue to be completed haha

Don't feel bad bro, I've been doing mine since June. I'm close to finishing...but I decided I wanted to be cool and get an HX35...so I'm gonna install that before finishing :thumb:

nice :thumb: .. sadly i ran into a whole lotta cancer on my lower radiator support.. i was actually able to pull the crossmember and crossmember bolts straight through the rust.. currently welding in a new one.. then all thats left is to swap the transmission and finally finish this :D

You guys are slackers, i'm diagnosed/considered disabled and i'm on roughly day two ending now

We plan to at least the the trans in after theRWD componenets tomorrow (as well as welding the support brackets (i want to do it with both the trans and rear end installed to make sure it's perfectly centered for movements if any (being anal)

Sub frame bolts are all now in right, the tank bolts are in and i hve the brackets clean eouch to weld into place but need to replace the studs on the rear one (some dumb ass stripped them a while back i guess

GOnna shoot the rear subby with duplicolor rubber black paint like plasti-dip that you can put in a cup gun :D, also going to treat it with that were the brackets and welds/grinding were done., gonna turn it around in FWD, put it back on stands and teh the trans out, seap flywheels and get the new one on and hopefully get the trans up inthere fairly easy..

I won't drive it untill i do a complete front to back checklist of every important bolt or anything we took off/repalced, then i'll fill the fluids, and do some take offs back and forth in case something goes to let loose under the first 100 HP LOL (please no!!!!!!!)0

anyway, this is the fun we had to start the day of working on the GST

Harsh words bro. Congrats on your success. In my defense, I work 60+ hrs a week, I don't have an air compressor, I also did a motor, ecu harness, and interior swap. I also had to get a new fuel filler neck hose and other randomous hard to find parts.
