I am building a 6 bolt block with a 6 bolt head. Block has manly rods and pistons with an oem 2.3 crankshaft (built by dsmgraveyard), head has 274 cams, 3g lifters, supertech single springs and stock valves with a 3 angle grind. i have a transmission built by jacks transmission here in colorado. I still havent decided what turbo setup i want. Im shooting for 500HP at the flywheel. at this time money isnt really a issue. time is the issue. im willing to wait and save a lil bit in order to buy everything i want. This car is going to be strictly a street car. I might take it to the track a few times but i intend to build it so i can reach my full 500HP at a lower rpm. I dont want to wait till 7000RPM. Any input is appreciated. Thanks

i want to get adjustable cam gears, an input on brands and pros and cons?

found out they are just part of the balancing process.

new pics of progress with suspension, engine compartment and a few pics of dsmgravyards 2.3 stroker(not to thrilled when i received it)

if you have ever built a engine and have any concern about it not leaking and not blowing up you will understand by looking at the pictures why i was not happy with what i found when i received this short block,

That sucks...for a new bottom end those look like some nicely used bs bearings....are maybe its just me, and the deck on that thing? Hell ive heard bad reviews about carquest, and they did my block and it has a better quality finish than that. Might wanna go oem mls just for reassurance

And for the 1g 2g head question....good luck getting a straight up answer. Velocity versus all out flow....pick one

They prob did not instal arp's in the mains because u need to line bore the mains after u instal them and torque them to spec. Which makes the build cheaper but a lot less reliable at that power level. For my 2.3 i spared no expense.

I'm sparing no expensence myself. I just made a bad decision and went with dsmgraveyard. My own fault. Short block is going to get torn apart. Sent to a machine shop resurfaced and then I'm going to reinstall crank rods and pistons.

That being said I will run all arps

What is line boring?

Felpro Permatorque Head Gasket.
L19 Head Studs

what do you guys think of that combo for the head?

ok line boring in where a machine shop check eather the crank or the cam gernals which are also call bearing or cam caps to see if the are worped sumtimes they can give u a biger bearing to over come this if u have never see what it dose ita chew the hell out of the crank. ok and as far as engine parts heres my list that i currently have on my 420a. My block is 40 over so I had to go with wisco pistons any forge piston is good je theres seaveral never go used. Crome molly rings are a good choice in case u wana spray if u not its just a good ring. Eagle h beam or if u got cash crower I beam rods. I used clevets 77 high preformance bearings go to a machine shop to get them there are 2 types for a 420a. Somthing to do with a year modle change. The stock crank is tuff so realy no need to get a new one if u dont need it. Now for the head a full port and polish on the head it runs about 650 or 850 depends on the shop. Over size stanless steel valves, Cower has an awsome set of valve springs with titaum retainers and locks. I went with crowes stage 2 for forced induction cam. Orders have been hard to get. I have soild liters Dynamic Turbo : BLE Solid Lifter Conversion Kits. they are awome. next from what i have read pt rockers are nice compared to the stock rockers for the oil flow and they dont tend to jump easy. Not sure if they have to be machined frist. Anyone know? Cam gears aem. I have a gator belt but realy a timing belt is a timing belt i have all under drive pullys Obx intake 65mm throtle bottie. aem fuel rail. 750 cc injectors. intercooler piping and intercooler. Header. catback. Fuel pump walbro is a good one never had any problems with them. Fuel pressure regulator. Aluminum flywheel and racing clutch. Msd ingnition system not the little coil pack.Cop set up. COIL ON PLUG. If u want a high volume oil pump TOGA makes one. I got a egr block off plate got rid of most of my vac lines. Also i went the extra mile and had over sized ARP head studs installed requirs dilling and taping. turbo thats just a few thing for ya man theres so manythings like megasquirt biger axels and on and on. most of everything is good for a nonboosted engine. Depends on ## use.:hellyeah:

You are 100% correct about bearing difference for the 420a's. 1995-1996 have little notches in the block for the bearings and come like this from the factory. 1997 to 1999, don't require to have notches done, unless you bought bearings for the 1995-1996 block. Make sure you buy the right bearings for the right block.

Thanks for your mod list for your 420a looks good. :thumb: I know about the bearings read/heard about it from 2gnt. I also, watched of youtube of a 420a owner notching his block.

Ok cool. Thanks for the info on line boring. I will be sending my block into a machine shop soon to see what the real deal is with this thing. I'm still real upset over the whole deal. Can u believe I spent over $3000 with those guys and they won't even respond to emails or voicemails? Ridiculous

Looks like a good setup to me. You will need tuning like DSMlink or a standalone with that power. The factory MAS won't work well for that. You might even consider running a speed density setup, which I have always favored. Good luck either way.

That is so messed up! I wouldn't go tearing into that shortblock until I got a response from DSMgraveyard though. They should be responsible for fixing that thing not you.

Oh I feel ya there. The builder should be responsible but I can't get a hold of them and I live 1500miles away. I'm a bit discouraged about it really. I plan on dsmlink and e85 with duel walbro 255s and maybe 1200cc or bigger injectors. Not sure yet on those tho. Worked on the rear suspension today, got all the energy suspension bushings pressed in. Went to bolt it all together and forgot I had to cut a few bolt off during the disassemble due to someone using the incorrect size socket prior to me owning the car. So I only got %60 of it done.

Oh and quick question for anyone in contact with bullseye, I tried to contact them on a hot side for my hx40 haven't heard anything from them. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

pictures!!!
thank you jacks transmissions in colorado springs!!!

Damn all you guys make me so jealous!!!!! I'm broke as a joke and barely finding the money to rebuild my motor to oem spec....my dsm is a headache so far:( finally saved up enough to get a dsm and 70 miles later...kaboom....rather then scrap it I went and bought another engine and the project is halted because I don't want to re use the timing belt and I need a headgasket and headstuds....man I hope this motor runs and I start having better luck... Well good luck with the build and it looks pretty good so far!!

I was a bit upset with my motor because of the $2500 I spent on it and recording it the way I did. I have build a few motors in my time and have never seen one in the condition I got this one in. I can't speak for every one of their motors but I can say this one made my decision to go elsewhere on my other parts. I'm glad to hear your dsmgraveyard motor is doing well. That makes me happy. But I'm still tearing this one down and cleaning, resurfacing and rebuilding it. I just don't want to risk it.

Don't get frustrated. I bought the shell for $750 back in December and was expecting to drop in a japan motor. 8 months later and $7000 broker here we stand LOL. I love this car!

Yea I think I'm goin to rebuild my motor I just blew for high hp and buy a 2g shell to swap it into and keep my 1g with a crappy shell and almost stock motor for a winter car

90tsiawdturbo i know a guy that has a mint condition 2gb shell for sale here in colorado if your interested. think he wants $1000

bkrathwohl thanks. LOL im pretty excited about it myself

update on build,
taking a further look at the front end it looks like im going to need wheel bearings, and also the prior owner some how cross threaded the slide bolts (not sure if that the correct term) on the calipers so im going to need to either rethread or get a big brake kit! any recommendations on a brake kit? Wilwood, Brembo, Bear?

If I had the money right now I'd be like hell yea but I'm goin through a motor rebuild at the moment so I can't afford it.... Thank you very much for the thought though!!!! :)

Hey no problem. I have been focusing almost 100% of my income towards this car since December 09. But the last 2 months I have been getting into guns. Now that's an expensive hobby.

brake setups aren't something I believe our cars need if you have the dual piston fronts on your awd id say just go with drilled an slotted with good pads and they brake very well. no need to blow money on them. But If your really wanting a brake setup find a used evo 8/9 front rear setup
