Multiple dead coil packs!

Ok this is a part two because people stopped responding and I need help.

Car wouldn't start after body swap. My friend gave me a stock coil pack and wires. Car fired right up. Ran for a short while then stopped. Well I just got another coil pack. Started right up. Now it won't! I checked spark and there is spark but hardly anything.

I know someone has some kind of suggestions. I need it! I just don't know what else to look for.
 
I'm sorry, I should have elaborated more, there is a little resistor on the coil pack I do believe, and have you checked your wiring to the coils, make sure nothing is burnt up, nothing unplugged anywhere, all fuses good?
 
You mean the Power Transistor? Yes, I've done the proper 1.5v/Ohm Load Testing to it as said to do in the Dealer Service Manual. But it checks out. And yes. Every single strand of wire on the entire car has been inspected numerous times. Every Ground has been checked. It took me a month to find out my COP was dead, by replacing it with stock coil pack and wires. But they didn't last long. Even the coil packs kinda test right. The ohm testing between the high outputs of the coils checks out to be Nominal. But the Ohm testing on the plug side I can't really get much of a reading from.
 
I'm not an expert but it sounds like something is causing you to burn up coil packs, and a cop setup..

Have you back checked wires from the harness on the coil pack back..It sound like you know what your doing so I would suspect you can figure it out..It's just being a PITA right now..
 
Over powering the system would lead to a very dead battery..It can only take soo much..But I'm sure he has checked the voltage at the battery..But it's just one more thing to check I guess.

Ruling out the possibilities, is always a good thing..

LOL yep something is causing coils to burn up haha... Like I said in the previous response, I built this harness, And I've inspected and re inspected every inch of it. And I don't mean built as in from scratch. I just took my already working harness, ripped all the sleeving off of it, and re sleeved it individually so I can tuck the harness. Then Problems arose (not because of the tuck, I was swapping EVERYTHING into a new body) so I started inspecting wires by destroying my nicely tucked setup. I've inspected every single wire including tail light wires. I've inspected every single ground and grounding is 100% Flawless!
Have you checked the alternator? Maybe it is over powering or underpowering your eletrical system.

Alternator doesn't really have anything to do with the Ignition system. Sure the Alternator/Battery provides the "initial power" but it does not provide the actual power to the coil packs or spark plugs. Our systems are made up of Cam Angle Sensor, Crank Angle Sensor, Power Transistor, Coil Pack and ECM. The two sensors take in the signal and calculates its proper "timing" for the spark, and in conjunction with the Power Transistor, It tells the Power Transistor to send the voltage. and how much voltage, and when to the coil packs. Ofcourse low DC Voltage would cause lower ignition voltage, But I don't think I've heard of a charging issue causing a dead coil pack.

With that said, Yes I have a perfect charging system. First things I checked. Alternator and Battery is new with only 30ish miles on them. I've inspected those wires too.

On top of that, I've tried Multiple ECU's that do work, Not assuming they work, they all came out of working, running cars. Everything came from a running car. Harness, ECU, Engine, COP, Transmission, Transfer Case, Valve Cover, You name it. Only thing thats not the same from it being reliable, is the new Shiny Silver body thats 100% Flawless Condition vs the Ehh/Wrecked black body everything was in.

This problem is becoming such an irritation, I'm about ready to sell it.

well im wondering, what if the coil packs were just old? You have gone threw it over and over and you sound like you know how it all works. Maybe it's just that simple
 
But... Ok. I had the Intrepid COP setup. It worked fine. The black car drove into the garage and then the motor was pulled, I cleaned the motor up with the COP off the block. And did the new valve cover. Put it all back and I lowered the car onto the motor (hell yeah!) And it started, but ran choppy, then eventually it stopped running. I wasn't driving it around tho. Just starting it up for a minute or so. Then I went through everything. And I mean EVERYTHING. I almost started crying. Then my old buddy brought over a stock coil pack and we tried it. It fired right up. And ran Cherry...

After that it didn't start again. I figured it was spark wires. Well the other day another old friend brought me a coil pack and wires. Boom it fired RIGHT UP! I drove it around the block (thats as car as I could without power steering LOL) and I pulled it into the garage to start strapping my wires back up. Friend came over and wanted to see it running and it made a pop, and that was it, didn't start again since then.

I'm gonna try to get another coil pack and another Power Transistor. Hopefully tomorrow. If I can steal one from U Pull It... LOL. Too Poor! LOL. After that if it goes again, then I'll know to sell it. haha.
 
This sounds to me like you are running on only one of the two coils. I have seen this twice. The car will start but once it gets warm you will never get it started again.

Make sure you have the correct firing order.
Make sure you have a 2gb coil pack
Check spark on each coil. 1 and 4 are on the same coil and 2 and 3.
Was a wire tuck done? If so the blue wire, the one that doesn't run into power transistor pack, runs all over the harness and people tend to clip and snip it. Make sure it is still connected.

Check spark on each coil. 1 and 4 are on the same coil and 2 and 3.

Uhm, I don't think so. I think the coil packs are being fried from something. Not from running on one coil pack. The car on a new coil pack will start and run FLAWLESS... Before then, I've tested spark and spark was great. After spark was hardly there.

I've had the correct fireing order. This has been tested and tested and double checked numerous times. My Timing, My Fireing Order and everything else is right. I made sure of it.

I had Coil On Plug the first time. then I had a coil pack off of a friends 97 GST. Then I had a coil pack off of a 94 AWD. they all worked for a day or so.

I've checked spark on every coil, before and after the failure. Before, Spark was great on the new plugs. After failure, spark is hardly noticable, if any at all.

I didn't cut any wires. I just stripped the sleeving and re sleeved them. So Injector wires and others are long and easily hidable behind the block. What blue wire is this.... I've gone through all the wires and couldn't find any damaged wires. But if you know how I can locate the one your speaking of, lemme know and I'll inspect it.

I'm going to pickup a new power transistor and coil pack and try that. If it kills the coil pack, then I'm going to yank everything from the car and start fresh.
 
ok i did a body swap on a gm with a similar issue, this was 9 years ago and it took me 2 months of random testing to figure this out....the issue I had was the harness that ran to the ecu was actually wired differently since the body swap was slightly different....i ended up using my old harness and running each and every wire exactly the same as was on the older body the engine came out of using the ecu the engine was originally attached to...you may already did this, but my problem was the power supply to the ecu on the body of the newer vehicle was wired a slight bit different, it was two wires that power into the ecu that ran more than just the ecu where it was split whereas the old body did not have that which resulted in an incoming power to the ecu slightly less for the newer ecu than was the older ecu.....the problem was actually before the computer...
