whats up guys,
I finally got some pics of my muffler and guage mount. It is the Magnaflow 3" in dual 2.5" out and it sounds great. The guage mount idea I got from a fellow DSMer. What do you guys think?

tell me about it, finally got mine installed 14" body, it leans up a bit like the Apex canister but all I did was hack off the apex canister and intall the muffler on teh apex pipes. I hate exhaust regulations. Have not been pulled over yet. Had some cop pull up behind me, get out walk up to the front of the car look then get back in his car at a stop light. comment on the noise from the Spal fans and fuel pump more than the exhaust.

You have an AWD, the read end is a bit different. Us FWDs have much less room to work with.

because that makes sense....o wait no it doesnt, although im sure you right, im just saying....wtf WTF

so are you all just putting the magnaflow on without tips?

cuz most look stainless w/out tips. . . i was worried it wouldn't look stock enough like that
It looks more stock with tips. Thans what I did

yup me to, I just used the magnaflow "aluminized" not SS, and stuck it on there. The exhasust shop that welded it up for me commented that unless you see the 3" pipe hanging below you would not have a clue what thsi thing could do drive up from behind (I even pulled the stock spolier off and am running spoiler-less), but if you see the front.... different story.

that is the same muffler most of us have been talking about, and if you read the text you can get it aluminized. The only real difference is the tips they had put on, but the tip are @3" long, and the muffler without tips sticks out about the same as the stocker, so figure out how much more it is going to stick out now. Jus the plain auminized muffler does the trick quite well. Besides you can find just the muffler with shipping included for 78.00. so your spending 100 on the tips alone.

okay, I have had a few PMs from a few members asking about clearance on FWDs 2g since there is a weird set of bend right before the muffler. I have the magnaflow PN12198 which is a oval aluminized muffler with a 3" inlet and dual 2.5" outlets on a 14" long body. I had a Apex N1 and due to increasing harrasment from the local police, I cut the canister from the N1 about 0.5 inches from the muffler and slid this guy right in and mocked up a hanger, then welded her up. It was a good thing I did this since the N1 was rotted out on the back wall due to no hole for water to escape and the use of salt the throw on the roads here in Utah, as evidence from the undercarrage. The car is also dirty since I have not driven it for 2 months getting it ready for a make over. (IE spoiler gone, soon to be filled. as well as removing the sunroof and having a piece of CF molded to the roof line and placed up there, plus removing another 100lbs). It is not a daily driver, plus the sunroof does not work anyways, so it is not biggie for me.

But enjoy the pictures. and if any other questions feel free to ask:

Also since modifying the exhaust in this manner I have not been harassed once by the police where i was getting pulled at least once a week before with the N1 canister. The sound/ tone did not change one bit, nor did I notice and increase nor decrease in performance between the magnaflow and the N1.

just outta curiosity, ive been wanting something like that for my exhaust, but im leaning towards the straight through pipe cuz it flows better,...

does it? or am i just paranoid about something so small....

want the sleeper look, but performance is more important, which is better to get?

that muffler is pretty straight thru. the 3" inlet goes thru some preforate sectionbut no baffles then exits to a large chamber about 1/4 muffler then out the 2.5" outlets. Before I put it in I was able to look in either end and see out the other. so be it the littel wall between the 2.5" tips, but still looking at a angle I was still able to see it. But please note the last paragrah of my last post. The sound/ tone/performace was not affected in any way I was able to tell. True I didnt have it before and after dyno tested, but I could not feel any difference with the uncalibrated butt dyno.

Whats the part number on your exhaust?

I have a Ractive Dual tip muffler i bought online for cheap (ebay) awhile ago and when I bought it it said it had two 2.5inch tips and a 3in inlet but once I got it I measure it and it has a 2.5 inch inlet. My exhaust piping is 3in and I was wondering can I get the inlet ( i dont want to say ported ) but cut open to a 3in size and then my exhaust pipeing welded onto the base of it??? Does that make sense to yal? Because I dont want to neck down the 3in pipeing on the muffler and Im not about to spend any more money buying another muffler.

I dont know how you can make the 2.5" inlet bigger. The only thing I could see is cutting the entire 2.5" inlet piece off the muffler, and welding the muffler right on the pipe? But I think you said that.

12198 Is what I have and I have it mounted a little differently. I have added stock looking tips to it since this pic. Its next to impossible to mount it straight out without killing the flow with a massive bend before the muffler. So we did this
