I started liking DSM's after I found out that 3000GT's and Stealth's were gonna be too expensive for me. Then again, the DSM may be also. Haha. So as you can see, I joined this forum in 2003, with no DSM. I started looking, drove 3 hours or so to see a couple of them, all being ones that had been beat on and not properly described by the owners. The first I looked at had "small surface rust," yet had a large rust hole in front of the rear wheel. Next one had tiny rust spots all over the car and was just plain shady. The interior wasn't bolted in anywhere...The rear seats were just sitting in the car, and the panels were just sitting in place. The third had the dipstick pop out when I test drove the car, and I found that the kid beat the hell out of the car, seemed to redline it in every gear. Then finally, I found a sweet 1gb that wasn't too far from me. Its a 1992 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. I think its got every option but a sunroof, which is a plus for me (2 other car's I've owned had leaks). Its red, and a 5 speed. Its got 126k miles, just had the timing belt and waterpump done. 2 Tiny spots of rust, which I hope to be fixing soon. Has a tiny grind in 2nd gear, but I'm putting some Pennzoil Syncromesh in it in the next couple days to see what that does. Just washed it and waxed it, looks beautiful. Interior is in really nice shape also. Unfortunately, it was built in June 92, so I think its a 7 bolt, but it does at least have rear LSD. I'll try and post some pics. I finally feel like I'm part of this forum. Haha.

Showing off the good hatch struts.

Ah... she's beeYOOteeful, son. :thumb: :talon:

Take care of her and she will take care of you.

Yeah, the struts were just replaced. :) I checked the compression today after driving it for an hour or too, and got these numbers from passenger side to driver's side :

167
170
169
170

I was so happy. I love this car. I can't stop smiling while driving it.

Only thing thats really bothering me was the drive home...I saw a red 97 or 98 on the side of the road...was an n/t though. Kinda freaked me out.

Congrats on the purchase! It could still be a 6 bolt so do what somebody suggested and call the dealership. Good luck with her.

Yeah, I should probably do that tomorrow and find out if the recalls have been done. Thanks for the tip. Also gonna change out the oil and tranny fluid, and order some Redline Shockproof for the rear diff.

Just out of curiosity, why are people suggesting calling a dealer and asking if its a 6 or 7 bolt when its so easy to do yourself, as well as possible someone swapped the engine already?

nice looking car though :thumb:

you got to be carefull of the awd transfer case on the 1gs they lock up..... call dodge and have the last 8 digits of your vin and they will tell you if you have the transfer case recall...
there is some plug that comes undone in the transfer case that will cuase it to leak tranny fluid and dry out and lock up the tires on you... just get it checked no biggy. :thumb:

What he said, just check the oil pan.

And it really is a clean looking car. You bought right! :thumb: :talon:

if its the stock motor, its a 6 bolt, they were 6 bolts up until October I want to say

EDIT: wait, nevermind... i messed up, if it was built up to October of 91 it was a 6 bolt.

I checked the pan, and it comes out toward the driver's side, so that makes it a 6 bolt right? I'm still skeptical b/c my compression numbers were higher than stock 6 bolt specs, and the build date is June 92. I'm gonna call the dealership and see what they can tell me from the VIN. Thanks.

The Mitsubishi dealership said I have the late engine. Chrysler just told me it was produced on June 18th, 1992. It's got a birthday coming up... :p

That's one of the cleanest looking 1g's I've ever seen. Good luck with it. :thumb:

If there is an indentation on the drivers side of the pan it's a 7 bolt, if not it's a 6 bolt.

I'm gonna jack it up and post some pics. I'm just confused since the stealership said it was a 7 bolt, yet the pan looks to be a 6 bolt. Lemme see what you guys think. Pics in a minute...

Here's my oil pan. 6 bolt or 7? Like I said, compression on all cylinders aroun 170, dealership said I have the "late" block, but I see this?

Just curious, but how much did you pick it up for?

Nice car by the way! I really wish that I had waited for a 1g AWD that looks like mine...
