I started liking DSM's after I found out that 3000GT's and Stealth's were gonna be too expensive for me. Then again, the DSM may be also. Haha. So as you can see, I joined this forum in 2003, with no DSM. I started looking, drove 3 hours or so to see a couple of them, all being ones that had been beat on and not properly described by the owners. The first I looked at had "small surface rust," yet had a large rust hole in front of the rear wheel. Next one had tiny rust spots all over the car and was just plain shady. The interior wasn't bolted in anywhere...The rear seats were just sitting in the car, and the panels were just sitting in place. The third had the dipstick pop out when I test drove the car, and I found that the kid beat the hell out of the car, seemed to redline it in every gear. Then finally, I found a sweet 1gb that wasn't too far from me. Its a 1992 Eagle Talon TSi AWD. I think its got every option but a sunroof, which is a plus for me (2 other car's I've owned had leaks). Its red, and a 5 speed. Its got 126k miles, just had the timing belt and waterpump done. 2 Tiny spots of rust, which I hope to be fixing soon. Has a tiny grind in 2nd gear, but I'm putting some Pennzoil Syncromesh in it in the next couple days to see what that does. Just washed it and waxed it, looks beautiful. Interior is in really nice shape also. Unfortunately, it was built in June 92, so I think its a 7 bolt, but it does at least have rear LSD. I'll try and post some pics. I finally feel like I'm part of this forum. Haha.

If its got the stock motor, its a 6 bolt. It means it has 6 bolts holding the flywheel, and the other motor has 7. They changed at some point during 92. 7 bolts are more prone to crankwalk, so many people swap in 6 bolts. For next time, I'd search cause people get pissed when you ask questions that could be answered with an easy search.

Anybody know what my block is though with the information I've given?

According to the picture that shows the oilpan, it looks like you have a 6-bolt...

"does any one know what comes in a 91 talon tsi awd.......
6 bolt or 7 bolt and what does it mean"

Try doing a little bit of searching first before asking this question, it has been asked several times. The 6 bolt was made until about the middle of the year in 1992. The 7 bolt suuposedly has more of a chance of crankwalk.

Any other opinions as to what block I've got? I just don't see how it could be a 6 bolt with compression numbers all around 170 psi and it should be a 7 bolt if its the stock motor. Could there just be carbon build up in every cylinder? I dunno what to believe...and is my oil pan really dented up? It seems to be leaking, so I may get a gasket for it, or a new pan if its dented too bad. Thanks for helping my million questions.

The pan isn't dented that badly. Mine leak a little oil also. I don't think that they take a typical gasket, though. I believe it is more like a glue-like substance that you put around it to seal it up. I need to do the same thing on mine, but the leak hasn't been bad enough for me to really worry about it until I get under the car to replace the exhaust, then I may do it.

Our engines do not have a oil pan gasket. Basically it is RTV sealent that makes a "gasket". Can you get more pictures From different sides and higher up on the pan. Maybe we can help you more then. Good lookin car. :thumb: :dsm:

I checked the pan, and it comes out toward the driver's side, so that makes it a 6 bolt right? I'm still skeptical b/c my compression numbers were higher than stock 6 bolt specs, and the build date is June 92. I'm gonna call the dealership and see what they can tell me from the VIN. Thanks.
look at the front face under the drivers side wheel(facing driver side wheel well). If it is a 7 bolt it wil have a bit of a pointed front......6 bolt is a flat front surface.

It feels about how it looks in that pic. It doesn't go in, but it also doesn't come out much. I'll try and shoot some more pics of it tomorrow when its not dark. Thanks for the help so far though.

Seems to bump out. 6 bolt then I'm assuming, but can anyone explain the higher compression numbers? Maybe using different pistons in there?
