hey guys so i have my motor out of my 420a 1998 eclipse. im putting an ebay turbo in my car( i know ebay sucks but im low on cash for now). i got everythin set up but noticed that i had a bent rod LOL. so im replacing all the pistons and rods with new ones. i was thinking going with je pistons and eagle rods. i was planning on running 8 psi. but if i get the je pistons and eagle rods how much more psi could i run?? im running a blox missing link and a blox fmu 12.1 ratio. greddy rs bov and some ebay external wastegate with a set spring at 8 psi. let me know what u think. thanks guys:hellyeah:

im running a set up in which im not gonna tune my car. i was planning on running 8psi. but if i do get these pistons and yeah im getting low compression LOL. i want to know how much more i can boost it up?? im doing this all myself and i dont know or want to get into really tuning my car, mostly because i dont know how and i dont have much money LOL

Boost is not a measurement of power.......

FWIW, I'm running 10.5 JE's with Eagle rods at just shy of 570whp on a BW366 at 29lbs.

You could get top dollar parts through out your engine, but increasing your PSI with out tuning your fuel WILL ultimatly destroy the motor.

Adding boost doesn't add power by itself. Tuning for the added boost is what will make the most out of the setup and keep your engine happy.

Besides, everyone has to start somewhere. As long as you start small with your tuning and make minor adjustments and log it to see how it performs you will be fine. Someone had to start from scratch one day and you have loads of information at your fingertips to help you out.

Gotta rock the megasquirt if you want to go any higher than 8psi unfortunately. You'll need bigger injectors as well. And if you don't already, a Walbro 255.

Putting parts on without tuning doesn't help much to be honest.

Even if you could hold your breath for an hour, a seasoned swimmer would still be able to dive deeper and further, and keep it up longer. Because they have essentially tuned their body to their goal. Same with these cars. The tune is the best way to get power, even with a stock motor.

thanks guys for all the info. im going small for now because i dont know much about tuning. later in the future when i know enough to tune it myself i will do it. for now ill stay with my simple 8 psi set up LOL. thanks again

You should spend some time in this forum if you want to learn a lot about tuning. www.MSefi.com • Index page I'm sure everyone here can tell you how much money they have saved by reading about MS in that forum. If you spend 10 min a day in that forum you should be able to tune mega squirt in no time. This article is very useful too, not 420a specific but still Tuning Your MegaSquirt

Power = air + FUEL. You can buy the biggest baddest turbo and engine components but if you cant supply the fuel then you wont make it past your neighbors house.

He can run more boost than that without Megasquirt. It's called a Vortech SFMU, 550cc Injectors, and a Wideband. If he's on a budget and doesn't feel like dealing with the massive headache that is tuning, this would be an ideal setup. He might still have to book dyno time, but tuning is relegated to turning a screw.... Most of this stuff is available in the classifieds on here and 2GNT for fairly cheap, too. You would better be able to utilize a built bottom end with this, rather than MS, if you don't know how to tune....
