I'm ecstatic. More stuttering of course..

On the way to work I was downshifting from 4th to 3rd and felt a sputter when reaching a stop. Idle was fine, OP and vacuum was fine, felt like a fluke sputter. So I make a turn after the light and around 3k-3500 it sputters again. Not bucking, just about stumbling over itself.

So I pulled into work and popped the hood, gave some gas to check for detonation (hey, happened to me before, I check no matter what nowadays) sounds ok. Idles great for 5 minutes or so. Funny thing is, I do't have a rheostat for my car still, therefore no interior lights or gas gauge. Sits on E the whole time. Well, the gas light glowed up on me, light was bright and I need feul...

Well, at this point I'm checking 3 things:

1) gunk on MAP sensor from running filthy rich
2) Fouled plug(s) from running filthy rich
3)Gas gauge giving inaccurate reading per no rheostat. I may be WAY lower on gas then I care to fathom.

So, I'm going to check the MAP, plugs, fill er up and throw some injector cleaner in there for shits n' giggles. Probably check pump voltage too. See what happens..

Any input? I was hoping to find someone whose experienced running low on gas to the point of sputter, sputter, no go.. Maybe find some insights to symptoms of an empty tank.

TIA. :thumb:

If your that low on gas then why are you questioning the studder. Seems quite obvious why.

How does a Map sensor get gunked up from running rich? The only thing around the Map sensor inside the intake is air. The injectors are downstream and therefore do not affect the cleanliness of the Map sensor. The only possability of the map sensor getting dirty is the EGR and cars with over 200k have never had thier Map cleaned yet they run fune.

Since when does a bad float in the gas tank affect the interior lights? Your wrong there too.

What? The air re-circulates through the system. Unless you've got an ionic breeze in there to purify the charged air, there WILL be CARBON build up throughout the charge sytem. Period.

They do, though. If you run rich and there will be re-criculated air within carbon in it. Just because the injectors are after the MAP doesn't meen air passing through won't return in the charge cycle.

When the power source to display the light is removed. I.E- Rheostat. But, I don't know my electronics all too well so yeah, that's a good question. I was wondering the same myself..

Thanks for the reply. I appreciate the input..

Yep.

I just went out on my break and checked the MAP sensor. It had some sludge on it, but the housing for it is what caught my attention. Looked like a tiny puddle of oil/carbon. I cleaned it out using carb cleaner and some towels. Started right up. Went to the station and put $35 in the tank. Drove to get some food and haven't had the occurance again... yet. (knocks on wood)

I stil want to check the plugs when I get a chance.. I think I'm fouling them out.

$35 in the tank???

What kind of gas are you using???

I just filled up for not even $25 today and I was almost completely gone.

Naw I'm with blitz on this one, gas is expensive...anwhere between 2.60-2.80/gallon, will net us about $35 if the tank is at the last line, usually $30 if its at 1/8th where I normally fill her up at.

My guess is needing $35 worth of gas was your problem. Eh although come to think of it, I put $32 in mine the other day at only $2.4X and my gas light wasn't even on yet

Shell V-Power. Premium.

I use usually around $35-$40 for gas. It's not even topped off! I'm barely above 3/4 of a tank..

You guys are getting a nice price on your gas. I'm paying about 2.7x..
