microtech 8 or dsm link

It'll be harder to set up and tune, but if you're asking the question then you probably have the skills to go for the stand alone. Link is cool, but I'll never use a mass air sensor again. Even if V3 does eventually support speed density (it's something like two months to two years?) for all the money I'd still much rather have a stand alone.

If you don't have the link cable, you will need to buy a whole new link system.

Other options if you have an eprom ECU are DSMap or tunerpro with an ostrich.

I agree 100% I have link now and its cool dont get me wrong but Iam wishing I would have just got the EMS instead. So now out of this tax check Iam out $1500 for EMS and hope I can sell my link for at least some of the money back:coy:.

I'm not sure about the microtech ecu as from the wiring and some other info on their site it looks to be a copy from another ECU that has since gone out of production. SO it's probably a decent ECU, i just have no info on the quality of parts used inside of it.

I'm going to be looking more into the mircotech s I've heard a bit about them lately on the forums. You never know it may be a damn good ECU.

I tell you I USE TO BE a fan of SDSEFI (simple digital systems) but they have become so pricey for something so simple and lacking features that i would not recommend them to anyone anymore because for another 100 bucks you can get a much more versatile setup from another maker that's more widely known and better supported. When SDSEFI first hit the market you could get a complete system for around 500 bucks, now they are damn near 1300 for the same ECU i bought at 500 bucks 8 years ago, but because people have ran them with success they think they are worth their weight in gold now :(

And i really wanted one for my motorcycle powered go-kart this year until i revisited via phone call and found that even as a dealer i couldn't get a good deal on one anymore :(

I am definitely interested in learning more about this Micro Tech unit... So let me know if you find out anything about them that's not on the site through a call or emailing with them/.

I'm going to be calling them as well to get some info

EDIT: as for which to choose..well, you've been told some of the cons to using DSMlink, and some of the pros to using a stand alone.. I vote stand alone since you'll probably go through more of a headache getting the cable and buying an eprom ship than you would by just installing the LT8 unit. plus the lt8 is going to give you full control, this may seem more complicated in the beggining, but when it comes to NOT having to calibrate MAF meters and such the stand alone will become easier. Don't get em wrong, i'm a fan od dsmlink, but all thr ttrouble they are going through to preven copies of their unit is making it harder for the end user to be able to get support(especially when buying a used unit) Go for the stand alone if you feel confident.. i cna guide you through some of it as far as setting up the triggers and ignition so hit me up if you need help on it. AS for DSMlink, i'm not much support, you need to be a member of their forums to get any good info, and being that i don't own one i've only had access to tth forums with customers passwords and usernames in the past, and could probaly get one to use again, but what a PITA .. most stand alones are similar enough taht if you can setup one, you can setup the others with some minor changes

If you're looking for complete tuning parameters, probably even more so than aem, use the microtech, idk why this was even in debate with link.

Otherwise, if you want to be able to tune easily, and still use the stock ecu, run the link. IMO if i were in your position, it wouldnt even be a question. Microtech.

Thanks for all the help. im going to be running a Garrett 35R so i wouldn't be using the 2nd gen mas because of the turbo inlet size difference, so i would have to do something like a GM mas with link. i was trying to keep some drivability for the street. i basicly have everything i need for both exept the eprom ecu for link.

For the tech i have the hand held, the ecu, and the whirring harness for ignition power and fule.

i think im going to sell the one i don't use so if anyone's interested in one of them let me know

Go with the m'tech, very easy to install and tune.
When it come with external map sensor it should be at least 3bar map sensor... for tunning you will have until 28psi for load map... does it have the laptop software upgrade sticker at the back of the ecu?

where is the coil wiring from the ecu?
