Today I began to change my timing belt..and I found some metallic strips between the crankshaft and the timing belt..my thought was hole s*@$t problems..and I began to look from were it might of been at..and I found a clean spot behind the water pump were those three pieces of metal fit....I think they belonged there but I am not shure, so I am counting that some one reads my post with an answer to my question...its a 1999 eclispe RS, and here is a picture of the metal

That looks like part of a bearing. It also fell on the timing belt when you pulled the cover off. No way that has made a trip around the sprockets.

I do see what looks like metal particles on the front of the block. Check the oil pump and balance shaft bearing.

aight thanks for the info Ill check that tomorrow..when I pulled the timing cover off it was stuck between the timing belt and the crankshaft, two other pieces were just lying near that big one

I think SrKegler has a point here. Those metal particles should not be there and may be the sign of underlaying problem. Remove the crankshaft sprocket and check its back for any sign of contact with the block front case. If the sprocket was indeed touching the block front case, it should have made a grinding noise. Did you hear anything before?
Do another simple test. Push the cranckshaft back and forth and see if it moves and let us know what you will find.

ok Im about to leave and will performe all of those check ups and I will let you all know what I find...I dont know if it was grinding before, I bought the car and was told that the only problem was the timing belt...according to the last owner, he had the whole engine rebuilt and also the transmission...its all new, new bearings, piston rings, pistons ....in a few words ALL... I got the car for 500 dlls ### he needed to move and to sell it. Thats all I know about it, thanks I apreciate the help you guys are giving me, Ill post what I find out later

ok Ive taken the crank sproket out..and it was grinding the block, so I suppose there was a metallic seal that was supposed to be there..which I guess explains the metallic strips that I found.... Besides buying the seals, what else should I check that couldve been messed up, oh and only the metallic seal was the one that broke, the other seals are intact. Oh and the crankshaft didint move back and forth at all, Thanks for all the help guys
